Gas Path

• All the air entering the engine passes


through the inlet cowl to the fan.
• At the fan the airstream divides into two
separate flows:

The ‘Core’ engine flow.


The ‘By-pass’ flow.

Fan Module Description
(Module 31)

Comprises of:
• 22 hollow fan blades
• 22 annulus fillers
• The fan disc
• The front and rear blade
retaining rings

Fan ‘Nose Cone’

• Glass-fibre cone smoothes airflow into


fan.
• Balanced during manufacture by applying
weights to the inside surface.
• Secured to front blade retaining ring by 24
bolts (including 6 bolts on fairing)
• Un-heated but provides ice protection by
using a ‘rubber tip’ to disperse any ice
build up.

fuel spray nozzles.
• Provides mounting locations for the 2 high
energy igniter plugs.

Engine Drain System

• Leakage and drainage from engine


accessories and fuel operated actuators is
conducted by tubes to the engine ‘Drains
Mast’.
• The Drains Mast discharges to
atmosphere through the bottom of the Fan
Cowl Doors.
