■ Ransomware is a type of malicious software, or malware, designed to

deny access to a computer system or data until a ransom is paid.
■ Ransomware often infiltrates a PC as a computer Trojan horse that
takes advantage of open security vulnerabilities.
■ Most software attacks are the result of clicking an infected email
attachment or visiting malicious websites.
■ There are two main types of ransomware: locker ransomware, which
locks the computer or device, and crypto ransomware, which prevents
access to files or data, usually through encryption.
 2.WHAT FACTORS/EVENTS LED TO THIS
DILEMMA?

■ Do not use of security software.

■ Not keeping your security software up to date.
■ Opening emails and attachments from unfamiliar
or untrusted sources.
■ Not backing up of important data to an external
hard drive.
3.WHAT ARE THE SOCIETAL IMPLICATIONS OF THIS DILEMMA?

■ People are what ultimately hold the internet together. The

internet’s development has been based on voluntary
cooperation and collaboration. Cooperation and
collaboration remain the essential factors for the internet’s
prosperity and potential.
■ People in the society have a shared responsibility to get
these attacks under control and to work collaboratively, not
just to keep ourselves and our vital systems and services
protected, but to reverse the erosion of trust in the internet .

it is essential that we humanize it,
and build it around serving human
needs.

ever forward. Its important to
know how it will affect us as it
goes, and questioning it is just
good patronization and shows that
we have vested feelings on it.

DILEMMA, WHY IS IT
IMPORTANT TO STUDY STS?
■ STS is essential in understanding
the impact of technology if it will
be misuse.
■ Students would become more
aware and conscious on how this
dilemma can affect people’s
lives and the society.
■ Studying STS will make the
students to further understand
the consequences of certain
actions that will help in
developing the capacity to
integrate moral and ethical
values in dealing with different
situations.
