 What Is Engine Oil ?
• Engine oil is designed to lubricate the inner components of
internal combustion engines, as well as to protect them
against corrosion and keep them cool while in use.

 Types Of Engine Oil..
There are four types of engine oil.
I. Mineral oil
II. Synthetic oil
III. Semi-Synthetic oil
IV. High-Mileage Oil
 Mineral Oil
• Mineral oils are made from naturally occurring crude oil which is
refined and processed to remove waxes and impurities.
• Mineral oils tends to be found in the thicker viscosity grade of engine
oils.
 Synthetic Oil
• Synthetic oils are chemically synthesised to meet the exacting
demands of modern engines.
• This makes them more expensive to produce, but because they are
tailor-made they provide the best performance, protection and fuel
economy.
• They also remain stable at very high temperatures and fluid at very
low temperatures.
 Semi-synthetic Oil
• Semi synthetic or part synthetic oils are a blend of both mineral and
synthetic oils.
• They provide better performance, protection and fuel economy than
mineral oils, but not as good as a full synthetic.
 High-mileage Oil
• High mileage oils contain seal conditioners and additives that cause o-
rings, gaskets and seals to swell.
• Many high mileage motor oils include detergents and claim they are
designed to remove sludge from engines.
• Most high mileage oils are formulated to benefit vehicles with 75,000
miles or more.
 Engine Oil Viscosity
• Based on the range of viscosity the oil falls in at that temperature,
the oil is graded as SAE viscosity grade 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60.
