Intellisys Xe90M, Ri37-75K Only
1. If screen displays “Check SD Card” – verify that the SD Card Board is seated
properly on main FMM board and that green LED status is lit on SD Card Board.
We probably want to specify that this event will show up as a warning, in yellow, on the
event log. This will also cause the red caution symbol to the left side of the screen to
blink. Also, let’s change the term FMM Board to Xe-90M Main Board
2. If SD Card Board is seated securely on FMM board, and LED SD card board
indicators are lit - and screen still displays “Check SD Card”; check that SD card is
properly seated in SD card board and a “click” is heard to assure that SD card is
installed properly.
In this case, the tech is not going to be able to see the LEDs since it is not safe to have
power on the machine with the door open, but otherwise, they should just make sure it is
properly seated in the spring loaded connector as you mentioned.
Troubleshooting SD Card for Xe-Controllers
There has been some discussion about troubleshooting the SD card for the Xe
controller. Also, I have recommended getting a “spare” from Wal-Mart or other
electronics department store for a minimum 1GB Micro SD card for technicians
to have in the field who are supporting Xe controllers. It is warranted?
4. If numbers 1-2 have been verified and screen displays “Check SD Card;” verify that
SD card is good by checking files on SD card using a Windows Xp or higher laptop. If
files are accessible and SD card is readable, verify files are not corrupt and/or missing.
We’ll probably want to add the list of files that should appear in the root directory here,
and if possible get a screenshot of what file corruption would look like vs. a normal SD
card screenshot. Windows will usually throw an error like “Disk is not formatted” or the
file names will appear garbled or missing.
We’ll also need to determine if and where we want to make the SD card files available
on TechLink in case the technicians need to format the SD card and place the new files
onboard. We’ll also need a procedure for that activity, which I can help with.
Troubleshooting SD Card for Xe-Controllers
Just so we are all on board. We had a team meeting Tuesday and we were under the
assumption not to change/troubleshoot an SD card.
- I am assuming the SD holds the controller program?
- If the SD card become corrupt not sure how a blank SD will help
- Is there a CCN of a SD card with the data on it?
- Is there a card size limit. (I have had failures in the past when memory size
exceed what the reader could scan)
The SD Card doesn’t contain the main controller program – it stores the following files
for the controller to use:
• Images for the user interface (backgrounds, icons, etc)
• Text files for the user interface
• Images for the web pages
• Text for the web pages
• The translation map for the Modbus register definition
When the controller is programmed using the service tool, one of the steps that the
service tool performs is to take the essential contents of the SD card and back them up
into internal memory. This allows the controller to function normally even if there is a
corruption of the SD card.
Troubleshooting SD Card for Xe-Controllers
Every time the controller boots, it performs an integrity check of the SD card
by comparing the SD files to those in internal memory. If it detects a difference
between the files, or a missing/corrupt file, it will log a “Check SD Card”
warning on the event log and boot using the internal memory backup. The
compressor functionality of the controller is unaffected as the main controller
program resides in onboard flash memory and is not affected by the SD card.
The other important function that the SD card provides has to do with
reprogramming the controller. When performing a software update, the SD
card is used as a temporary storage space for the file being transferred by the
service tool, so if the card is corrupt, the service tool update can’t be
performed. In this case, a blank SD card would allow the service tool update
to proceed. The service tool update then would place the correct files on the
new SD card and recreate the backup in internal memory. In this way, a blank
SD card would restore the controller to a normal state when combined with a
service tool update.
There isn’t currently a CCN for a programmed SD card, but the blank SD card
is CCN 23630395. This is a 1 GB card, but the controller has also been
tested with 2 GB. Tests need to be performed with SDHC cards (4 GB+)
