There are three kinds of comparison degree:
1. Positive degree
2. Comparative degree
3. Superlative degree
Comparison of Degree
• The positive form is the base form of the
adjective. e.g. Big
• The comparative form expresses a higher
degree of some quality. e.g. Bigger
• The superlative form expresses the
highest degree. e.g. Biggest
Positive Degree
Form of positive degree
1. As + adj/adverb + as
example : the beautiful lady is as tall as you are
2. Not + so + adj/adverb + as
example : the beautiful lady is not so tall as you are
3. The same + noun + as
example : you are the same age as I am
4. As + sentence Positive Degree
example : I love you as you love me
5. Alike
example : Zara’s book and Dina’s note are alike
6. Like + noun
example : She is smart Like you
7. Different ..... From
example : I am totally have a different personality from you
Comparative Degree
One-syllable
Form : adj/adv + er + than
e.g : He is smaller than you

Two-syllable
Form : more + adj/adv + than
e.g : She works more dilligent than I do

Special cases in comparison of degree
1. Multiple number comparative : half, twice, three times

2. Double comparative
Form : the comparative degree + S + Verb + the comparative

example: the hotter it is, the more miserable I feel
the more you study, the smarter you will become

3. Of the two nouns


Form : S + Verb + the + comparative + of the nouns
example: jhon is the smarter of the two boys
