Application of

Resonant Circuit in
Radios
BACKGROUND OF THE DESIGN OF
THE EXPERIMENT

What is Resonant Circuit?

A resonant circuit is also known as an LC
circuit, tank circuit or tuned circuit.
Series Resonance
The circuit has the capability to draw
heavy current and power from the
mains. It is also called acceptor circuit.

Parallel Resonance
In the circuit, the elements are connected in
parallel. In both series and parallel resonance
both have a resonant frequency point, however
parallel resonance is influenced by currents
flowing through each parallel branch within the
circuit.
FM Transmitter
The FM Transmitter is a low power
transmitter and it uses FM waves for
transmitting the sound.
STATEMENT OF THE PURPOSE
 The main objective of this experiment is to show the Application of Resonant
Circuits in radio through the use of an FM Transmitter. This experiment aims
to test and observe the transmission of sound via FM waves through trials that
consist of different frequencies.

 Specific Objectives:
 1. To be able to build and test a series resonance circuit, parallel resonance
circuit and a working FM transmitter circuit.
 2. To be able to illustrate that resonance circuits are used in FM transmitters.
 3. To be able to determine parameters such as voltages and currents on the
inductor affected by each frequency change.
 4. To be able to build an actual working FM transmitter prototype.
 5. To be able to determine the value of the Coil Inductor required to make
the FM transmitter prototype work given the selected user frequency and
capacitance.

CONCLUSION
 The DOE team therefore concludes that they managed to complete the design of experiment regarding the
use of resonance circuits in FM transmitters. They were also successful in their main objective; which is to
prove that FM transmitters are one of the applications of resonant circuits through the testing and
observation of the transmission of sound via FM waves via the FM transmitter circuit.

 As the experiment progressed, they were also able to complete their specific objectives such as:

1.) To be able to build and test a series resonance circuit, parallel resonance circuit and a working FM
transmitter circuit.

2.) To be able to illustrate that resonance circuits are used in FM transmitters.

3.) To be able to determine parameters such as voltages and currents on the inductor affected by each
frequency change.

4.) To be able to build an actual working FM transmitter prototype.

5.) To be able to determine the value of the Coil Inductor required to make the FM transmitter
prototype work given the selected user frequency and capacitance.

 In summary, we’ve learned that resonance circuits are found in FM transmitters, specifically the parallel
resonance circuit. The FM transmitters are used in the homes like sound systems in halls to fill the sound
with the audio source. In testing both series and parallel resonance circuits, we established the effect on
the parameters on the inductors by varying the frequency. The DOE team has accomplished their objectives;
such as conducting and experiment, gather data and results, and verify their results through statistical tools.
SYNTHESIS
In this design of experiment, it is observed that resonant
circuits are used in radio and in this case through FM
transmitter circuits. In series resonance circuits, frequency
changes are done through varying the voltage applied on the
inductor while in parallel resonant circuits, frequency
changes are done through varying the current on the
inductor. A parallel resonant circuit is used in the FM
transmitter circuit. When a user set frequency is selected,
the value of the coil inductor can be computed using the
frequency and capacitance of the capacitor in the FM
transmitter circuit.
