This study investigated factors affecting 100 Grade 11 students' choices of academic strands at Claro M. Recto High School and the effect on their performance. A survey found most students chose their strand and felt comfortable with their choice. While students had difficulty with social science subjects, their choice of strand did not significantly affect academic performance. A survey was conducted containing basic question about Factors Affecting Students Choice of Strand. A total of 100% population of Grade 11 students of Claro M. Recto High School-Senior High School were included surveyed. It was determined that there is no significant effect that the students' choice of strand affects their academic performance. The result of the study suggest that students should look into the result of this study so that they will be more careful in choosing their strand. METHOD This research used quantitative method to collect data. since this research involves observing and describing the behavior of a subject without influencing it in any way, descriptive research design was used. The subject and the respondents of the study were composed of 100 Grade 11 students of Claro M Recto High School-Senior High School who were enrolled during the first semester of S.Y 2019 -2020 . The researchers utilized the questionnaire that are intended for Grade 11 students. Fish bowl sampling was used for the population of this research. RESULTS Profile of the Respondents Gender ·Fifty five percent of the respondents were females. Age Seventy five percent of the respondents belong in the age range 15-17. Strand ·There are 25 students per class were included in the study. Program Graduated ·Ninety six percent of the respondents are grade 10 completer. RESULTS . I am the one who chose my strand · Respondents said that they’re the one who chose their strand. 2.. I choose the strand I am in because I have friends who are also taking this · The respondents disagreed that they chose the strand they in because they have friends who are also taking the strand. 3. I don’t have any other choice of strand · The respondents disagreed that they don’t have any other choice of strand that’s why they are in the strand they are right now . 4. I am comfortable with the I chose · Respondents said that they are comfortable in the strand they took. RESULTS 5. I can perform in the subjects of the strand I am taking · Respondent said that they can perform in the subject of the strand they took 6. I can cope up with my subjects · Respondents said that they can cope up in their subjects. 7. The course I want for college was aligned in the strand I took · Respondents said that the course they want for college was aligned in the strand they took 8.. I am confident that I can survive in the strand I choose · Respondents said that they’re confident that they can survive on the strand they took. 9..I’m still confused if I fit on the strand I took · The respondents disagreed that they are still confused if they are fit on the strand they took. CONCLUSIONS The research revealed that the Grade 11 Students of Claro M. Recto High School-Senior High School had a hard time in dealing with social sciences subject. It also revealed that the students' choice of strand had no effect on their academic performance. Moreover, It further revealed that students were comfortable with the strand that they have chosen that resulted to their active performance in class which gave them the confidence that they can survive the challenges in the strand that they took. RECOMMENDATION The students of Claro M. Recto Senior High School need to think very carefully on the strand they want. The researchers recommend this research study for those students who are not sure which strand to choose in Senior High School. Therefore, this study will guide them in this endeavor. Parents should let their child to choose what they want to pursue. Teachers must illuminate their students on what strand they are in. The Department of Education should continue in providing teachers with training that will make their class both engaging and enjoyable.
