The document summarizes a study on the effectiveness of Makahiya (Mimosa pudica) extract as a pesticide against Rice Black Bugs (Amaurochrous dubius). The study involved collecting Makahiya plant and Rice Black Bugs, preparing a Makahiya extract, and exposing groups of Rice Black Bugs to different amounts of the extract. Observations found that more sprays of the extract led to faster death of the Rice Black Bugs, with two bugs dying within 2 minutes when exposed to 4 sprays of the extract. The study suggests Makahiya extract has potential as a natural pesticide alternative.

Casia INTRODUCTION Rice is a primary source of food for more than half of the world population, and it provides income and employment to more than 100 million households in Asia and Africa. Approximately 52% of the global production of rice is lost annually owing to the damage caused by biotic factors. More than 100 species of insect pests attack the rice crop including the Rice Black bug turtle. The species complex is known to vary in abundance and distribution from locality to locality and from year to year (Bhatt et al. 2018). In the northern part of India there has been observed to consume large amounts of WHO classified “extremely” and “highly hazardous” pesticides, in rice crop, posing significant health and environmental threats. Custody in view this problem, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) modules were synthesized for rice crop and then compared with non- IPM/farmer’s practice (NIPM).The IPM modules were observed to have least impact on natural enemies with 30–40% increase in population, while keeping the weed population below 10%. NIPM, on the other hand, had resulted in 20% reduction in crop yields, 50% reduction in biodiversity, and about 150% increase in weed population, relative to the control (untreated) rice fields (Arora et al. 2019). On the other hand, Davao City farmers and technicians noted the presence of the Rice Grain Bug (RGB), which at first glance appeared to be a tiny species of praying mantis or black ant in Maragusan, Compostela Valley. Rice farmers in Negros Occidental suffered losses amounting to PHP11.544 million brought by various crop pests in the past four months (Provido, 2017). Makahiya plant extract has strong antimicrobial activity against Staphylocus aurens and Bacillus Subtilis. Makahiya extract contains the phytochemicals alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and triterpenes. Makahiya plant extract has strong anti-microbial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtills but has negative activity against Candida albicans and Makahiya ectract exhibits antioxidant property. This study can contribute towards unraveling new knowledge and researches in understanding the effects of Rice black Bug Turtle to the rice fields that leads to rice shortage control through the Makahiya Extract that can be seen anywhere . MATERIALS AND METHOD
This study is composed of three phases,
Phase 1 Gathering of Materials and preparation, Phase 2 Makahiya extract experimentation, Phase 3 data Analysis. All experimental procedures where done in the science laboratory at Cabantian National High School. P H A S E 1 : G AT H E R I N G O F M AT E R I A L S A N D P R E PA R AT I O N
A. Collection of Makahiya
The Makahiya (Mimosa Pudica)Plant was
collected from the backyard of the proponents. B. Collection of Rice Black Bug Turtle
Rice Black Bug Turtle was collected using
the Sweep net sampling at the Banaybanay farm of the proponents. PAHSE 2: MAKAHIYA EXTRACT AND RICE BLACK BUG TURTLE EXPERIMENTATION A. Collection of Makahiya Extract Samples The first step is to wash the Makahiya plant , cut the stem and the leaves into smaller pieces. Next, separate the Makahiya Leaves into the Makahiya stem. After that, pound the stems with the mortar and pestle to get the extract. Then, put the leaves and the stem into a pot and let it boil after 5 minutes. Put the Extract to the container with cheesecloth and let it cool for several minutes. 145 ml of extract was collected in the experiment. B. Makahiya and rice Black Bug Turtle set-up
The experiment was composed of four sets(Set-A 2 rice
black bug and Spray of Makahiya extract, Set-B 2 rice black bug and 2 Sprays of Makahiya Extact, Set-C 2 Rice Black bug and 3 sprays of makahiya Extract, Set-D 2 rice Black Bug and 4 Sprays of Makahiya extract ). 8 Rice Black Bug Turtle and 145 ml of Makahiya Extract. C. Experimentation, observation and Evaluation
After the expermientation, it is observed that in the first set
no significant changes was observed . In the second set, 1 rice black bug died in 5 minutes. In the third set, both rice blacg bug died in 5 minutes. But in the last set, both died in 2 minutes. D. Disposal of Rice Black Bug Turtle samples
The dead Rice Black Bug Turtles were
burried in the backyard of the proponent’s house. PHASE 3: DATA AND ANALY SIS
After gathering results, it is observed
that the more sprays of makahiya extract, the more Rice Black bug Turtle died in a short period of time.
