Church’s Mission on

Propagating the Word of

God

Group 4
Terminologies
• Sacred scriptures - texts related to a religious
tradition.
• Sacred Traditions- holy tradition, is a
theological term used in the major Christian
traditions.
• Holy Spirit- the third person of the Trinity; God
as spiritually active in the world.
• Synod- is a council of a church, usually
convened to decide an issue of doctrine,
administration or application
What is Church?
• The original Greek ekklesia meant "a
gathering, assembly" and is the basis for our
word "congregation." And that is what God
designed the church to be a group of people.
• Church is the mystical body of Christ,
established by God on earth to gather
humanity to divine life in heaven.
• The Church serves as the moral center of our
society
How it started?
• Jesus brought about the fulfillment of the Father’s plan
for the Church first by his preaching and witnessing the
Good News of the Kingdom, with its gifts of salvation
from sin and participation in divine life.
• The seed and beginning of the Kingdom was the little
flock whom Jesus shepherded as his family. Jesus
established the beginnings of a visible structure of the
Church that will remain until the Kingdom is fully
achieved, through his choice of the Twelve Apostles, with
Peter as the head.
• From the beginning, the Church was part of God’s plan for
sharing his divine life with all people.
Church according to Dei
Verbum
• The sacred scriptures was passed down from
generations to generations orally and in written
form
• Together with the sacred tradition that was
inspired by God, the scripture has been passed is
imparted by the Church without change
• All the preaching of the church must be nourished
and regulated by the sacred scripture
• Since the sacred scripture should be provided to
all, the Church, who has the authority, should
provide a suitable and correct translations of
different languages word per word from the
original texts of the sacred books
Church according to Dei
Verbum
• The Church, with the guidance of the holy
spirit, shall provide a deeper understanding of
the scripture to feed the people increasingly
divine words
• The sacred synod encourages the sons of the
Church and Biblical scholars to continue
energetically, following the mind of the
Church, with the work they have so well
begun, with a constant renewal of
vigor(effort, energy, and enthusiasm).
Church according to Dei
Verbum
• Therefore, all the clergy must hold fast to
the Sacred Scriptures through diligent
sacred reading and careful study,
especially the priests of Christ and others,
such as deacons and catechists who are
legitimately active in the ministry of the
word. This is to be done so that none of
them will become "an empty preacher of
the word of God outwardly, who is not a
listener to it inwardly"
OF THE CHURCH
is to Proclaim the Word and
Build the Kingdom of God.
Mission: Propagate God’s Word
• Among the gifts Christ gives His Church are gifts of
spiritual leadership apostles, prophets,
evangelists, pastors and teachers. They are
entrusted with the responsibility of preaching the
gospel and of teaching, nourishing, protecting and
building the Church.
• They are to lead the people of God to work together
in unity to love, respect and support each other
• The Church’s mission to proclaim the Good News is
intricately bound to experiencing the Word of God
in life.
Mission: Propagate God’s Word
• Today, the Church’s mission in service to the
Word of God is addressed to a wide variety of
individuals: people and groups of persons,
those in socio-cultural contexts where Christ
and his Gospel are unknown or are not yet
well grounded; communities of Christians
ardent in faith and life; and, in some places,
entire groups of baptized who no longer
consider themselves members of the Church,
leading a life far from Christ and his Gospel
Mission: Propagate God’s Word
• raison d’etre- the most important reason or
purpose for someone or something's
existence.
• Undoubtedly, proclaiming the Gospel is
the raison d’etre of the Church and her
mission. This implies that she lives what she
preaches. Doing so in a decisive manner will
ensure that what she proclaims is credible,
despite the need and weakness of her
members.
Why is the Church’s Mission to
propagate God’s Word
• God tells us that when we take that step of faith to
share the gospel with others, He's with us always.
• Sharing the Word is important not only because it's
what we are called to do, but it also gives us a better
understanding of Christ.
• It helps us grow in Him and recognize all that He has
done and is doing for us in our lives.
• It could help change someone’s life and it could even
save someone’s life. It will definitely change and awe
your heart to see someone else life be transformed
by God.
• Sharing God’s love with others can be as simple as
praying in Bible study or praying for others alone.
Ways on how to spread God’s
Word
• Pray for courage. One of the hardest things about
spreading God's good news is gathering the
courage to do it.
• Be bold. Don't think 'I'll just get persecuted.' or
'They'll think I'm weird', etc or you'll never get
anywhere!
• Read the Bible and obey God. How can you
persuade others if you are not armed with
righteousness and the sword of the spirit (The Holy
Bible)?
• Be generous and helpful to others. We should help
those in need and don’t expect anything in return.
Ways on how to spread God’s
Word
• Tell everyone around you, then everyone
else. Don't tell just a few people of the good
news, tell everyone you meet.
• Be a good role model to everyone around you.
Even without chatting with other person, you
can share the good news by living by the word
of God.
• Attend church. Pastors have sermons that will
explain what is meant in certain verses and
will tell what to do according to them.
Keypoints to remember
• The church is not a building; it is a group of
people.
• The Church’s top mission was to spread God’s
word to everyone who’s willing.
• We shouldn’t be afraid to spread God’s word.
Letting others know about God should be one
of our biggest privileges.
• Take heart and take courage in your faith
walk. Always have the guts to talk about God
with others.
Keypoints to remember
• God’s word can comfort us, give us positivity,
and can even save lives.
• Let people remember that prayer should
accompany the reading of Sacred Scripture,
so that God and man may talk together
• Spreading the word doesn’t only mean to
literary share the word orally but also good
works and deeds.
• We should also follow and live by God’s word
not just spreading it and understanding it.
