When the term concept is used
in connection with teaching
and learning, it refers to the
way knowledge and experience
categorized.
 plains, valleys, seashore, plateau
Equipment, weapon, instrument,
furniture
 School, hospital, market, church
Typhoon, holiday, flood, festivity.
Concepts are vital in
designing instruction
considering that all
learning, thinking, and
action involve concepts.
 Concepts allow learners to sort out
large number of people, objects and
events in to categories.
 E.g ( freedom, responsibility,
democracy justice)
 Peace , conflict, honesty, kindness
CONCEPT LEARNING = is
essentially putting things
into class, and then being
able to recognized
members of the class.
Characteristics of concepts which
serve as guidelines for teacher in
planning Instruction

 Concepts themselves can be placed into


categories.
 Concepts are learned through examples and
non examples.
 Concepts are influenced by social context.
 Concepts have definition and labels.
 Concepts have critical attributes that
describe and help define them.
Development of Skills

 skills are tools with which students


continue their learning.
 Skills imply proficient, the
capability of doing something well.
Skill can be improved through
practice.
