Economic aspects
 The MSEs play pivotal role in the overall industrial
economy of the country.

 The Major advantage of the sector is its employment


potential at low capital cost.
 Number of Micro & Small enterprises
(2006-07) 128.44 lakh

 Registerd 20.32 lakh


 Unregisterd 108.12 lakh
 The MSEs contribute around 39% of the country
manufacturing out put and 32% of export in 2006-07.

 It Estimated employment in small industries during


1987-88 was 129.8 lakh which increased to 312.5
lakh during 2006-07.
 Cloth Industry is the largest industry in the country.
It share in total industrial production is about 20%. It
contributes 38% in total exports of the country. It
provides employment to 200 lakh people.

 India is the world leader in carpet exports with 36%


of the global market share.
 Handicraft sector provides employment to 65 lakh
artisans.

 India is the largest exporter of jute goods and this


sector provides employment to 40 lakh farm families.
