Introduction
 In computer science, artificial intelligence (AI), sometimes called machine
intelligence, is demonstrated by machines in contrast to the natural
intelligence displayed by humans.
 Any device that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize
its chance of successfully achieving its goals.
 The term "artificial intelligence" is often used to describe machines (or
computers) that mimic "cognitive" functions that humans associate with
the human mind, such as "learning" and "problem solving".
 As machines become increasingly capable, tasks considered to require
"intelligence" are often removed from the definition of AI, a phenomenon
known as the AI effect.

Healthcare
 AI in healthcare is often used for classification, whether to
automate initial evaluation of a CT scan or ECG or to
identify high risk patients for population health.

 Artificial intelligence is assisting doctors. According to

Bloomberg Technology, Microsoft has developed AI to
help doctors find the right treatments for cancer.
Da Vinci Surgical System
 The da Vinci Surgical System is a robotic surgical system made
by the American company Intuitive Surgical.
 It is designed to facilitate surgery using a minimally
invasive approach, and is controlled by a surgeon from a console.
 The system is used for cardiac valve repair
and gynecologic surgical procedures.
Coala life heart monitor
 Coala offers two types of heart monitors: one for patients and another, the Coala Pro,
for professionals.
 The small, neatly designed gadget has three sensors: one for chest and two for thumb
ECG recordings – in order to make the results more accurate. So, you simply hold the
Coala for 30 seconds on your chest, followed by using your thumbs for 30 seconds.
And voilà: in one minute you’ll get analyses and screenings for 10 different cardiac
pathologies.
 The user is able to monitor the results nearly real time in the Coala App. The medical
device connects to the smartphone via Bluetooth, while data is stored in the cloud and
provides easy access for care givers through the Coala Care portal.
Automotive
 Advancements in AI have contributed to the growth of the
automotive industry through the creation and evolution of self-
driving vehicles.
 As of 2016, there are over 30 companies utilizing AI into the
creation of driverless cars.
 Many components contribute to the functioning of self-driving
cars.
 These vehicles incorporate systems such as braking, lane
changing, collision prevention, navigation and mapping.
Together, these systems, as well as high performance computers,
are integrated into one complex vehicle.
Self-driving car
 A self-driving car, also known as an autonomous
vehicle (AV), connected and autonomous
vehicle (CAV), driverless car, robot-car,
or robotic car is a vehicle that is capable of
sensing its environment and moving safely with
little or no human input.
 Self-driving cars combine a variety of sensors to
perceive their surroundings, such
as radar, LIDAR, sonar, GPS, odometry and
inertial measurement units.
 Advanced control systems interpret sensory
information to identify appropriate navigation
paths, as well as obstacles and relevant signage.
Military
 The main military applications of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are
to enhance C2, Communications, Sensors, Integration and Interoperability.[
 Artificial Intelligence technologies enables coordination of sensors and effectors,
threat detection and identification, marking of enemy positions, target acquisition,
coordination and DE confliction of distributed Join Fires between networked combat
vehicles and tanks also inside Manned and Unmanned Teams (MUM-T).
 Worldwide annual military spending on robotics rose from US$5.1 billion in 2010 to
US$7.5 billion in 2015.
 Military drones capable of autonomous action are widely considered a useful asset.
 Many artificial intelligence researchers seek to distance themselves from military
applications of AI.
 The Indian army has recently announced their intent to induct AI in the next 2-3
years for constructive and disruptive operations.
 Examples are Artificial intelligence arms race, Lethal autonomous weapon,
and Unmanned combat aerial vehicle.
Examples:

Agriculture
 In agriculture there is a quick adaptation to AI in its various
farming techniques.
 AI powered agriculture, rendering its service in interpreting,
acquiring and reacting to different situations (based on the
learning acquired) to enhance efficiency.
 Disease detection, Identify the readiness of the crop, Field
management, Crop health monitoring , Identification of
optimal mix for agronomic products are the other fields in
which AI plays a major role.
Agricultural Robotics
Blue River Technology – Weed Control
 Companies are using automation and robotics to help farmers find more efficient
ways to protect their crops from weeds.
 Blue River Technology has developed a robot called See & Spray which
reportedly leverages computer vision to monitor and precisely spray weeds on
cotton plants.
 Precision spraying can help prevent herbicide resistance.
Harvest CROO Robotics – Crop Harvesting
 Harvest CROO Robotics has developed a robot to help strawberry farmers pick
and pack their crops.
 Harvest CROO Robotics claims that its robot can harvest .
Finance
 Artificial intelligence in finance is transforming the way
we interact with money. AI is helping the financial
industry to streamline and optimize processes ranging
from credit decisions to quantitative trading and financial
risk management.
DATA ROBOT

Data Robot provides machine learning software for data scientists, business analysts,
software engineers, executives and IT professionals.
Data Robot helps financial institutions and businesses quickly build accurate predictive
models that enhance decision making around issues like fraudulent credit card
transactions, digital wealth management, direct marketing, block chain, lending and
more.
QUANTITATIVE TRADING

Quantitative trading is the process of using large data sets to identify patterns that can be
used to make strategic trades. Artificial intelligence is especially useful in this type of
trading.
AI-powered computers can analyze large, complex data sets faster and more efficiently than
humans. The resulting algorithmic trading processes automate trades and save valuable
time.
Media
 AI systems such as those of Microsoft Azure, Google or IBM allow the
automation of repetitive tasks and processes that would normally require the
allocation of greater time and resources, especially in the areas of
production, cataloging and media management.
 In social media platforms like Facebook, AI is used for face verification
wherein machine learning and deep learning concepts are used to detect
facial features and tag your friends.
 Another example is the newly released Google’s virtual assistant called
Google Duplex, that has astonished millions of people. Not only can it
respond to calls and book appointments for you, but it also adds a human
touch.
 The device uses Natural language processing and machine learning
algorithms to process human language and perform tasks such as manage
your schedule, control your smart home, make a reservation and so on.
Space Exploration
 Space expeditions and discoveries always require
analyzing vast amounts of data. Artificial Intelligence and
Machine learning is the best way to handle and process
data on this scale.
 After rigorous research, astronomers used Artificial
Intelligence to sift through years of data obtained by the
Kepler telescope in order to identify a distant eight-planet
solar system.
 Artificial Intelligence is also being used for NASA’s next
rover mission to Mars, the Mars 2020 Rover. The AEGIS,
which is an AI-based Mars rover is already on the red planet.
The rover is responsible for autonomous targeting of cameras
in order to perform investigations on Mars.
Chatbots
 Amazon’s Echo is an example of how Artificial Intelligence can be used to
translate human language into desirable actions. This device uses speech
recognition and NLP to perform a wide range of tasks on your command.
 It can do more than just play your favorite songs. It can be used to control the
devices at your house, book cabs, make phone calls, order your favorite food,
check the weather conditions and so on.
