BEARINGS
WHAT IS BEARING?
A bearing is a machine element that
constrains relative motion to only the desired
motion, and reduces friction between moving
parts. The design of the bearing may, for
example, provide for free linear movement of
the moving part or for free rotation around a
fixed axis; or, it may prevent a motion by
controlling the vectors of normal forces that
bear on the moving parts
TYPES OF BEARING
1.PLAIN BEARING
2.ROLLER BEARING
3.BALL BEARING
4.FLUID BEARING
5.MAGNETIC BEARING
MOTIONS BY BEARINGS
Ball thrust bearings should be subjected to only pure thrust loads. At high speeds, a deep-groove or angular-contact ball bearing is
usually a better choice -- even for pure thrust loads.
Ball bearings and cylindrical roller bearings have low friction coefficients.
Many different bearings are available with built-in seals for prelubrication.
Permissible Speed and Bearing Type:
6. Find the value of x and y i. e. radial and thrust factor from the catalogue. These values depend upon (Fa / VFr) and (Fa / Co).
7. Find the value of load factor or application factor ‘Ka‘from the catalogue.
9. Calculate the approximate bearing life in hours from the type of bearing, operation and type of machinery that depends upon application.
10. Calculate the required basic dynamic capacity for the bearing by using relation, L10 = (C / Pe ) a or
