AIESEC History

1945 is better known for?


WORLD WAR II
With the death of so many
potential young leaders, the idea
of establishing an organization
that will reverse this misfortune
arose.
1946
How was AIESEC founded
In January 1946, A Swedish
student, Eric Malson,
contacted 6 friends from 6
different European countries
to suggest the idea of
establishing an organization
to bridge the gaps between
the countries after World
War II
Finland Denmark

Norway Belgium

France Sweden
In September 1948 Students from
Universities and 6 countries cam
together in Stockholm to build a
new co-operation.
From this meeting emerges AIESEC…

Jaroslav Zich, a delegate
from Prague,
Czechoslovakia is chosen
as President.
With the race for superpower
status between the USSR and the
USA coming to a head…the
“cold war” is felt everywhere…

…even within AIESEC

doing to achieve those

1950 - 89 traineeships are realised in
AIESEC’s first real year of operation!

This means that people from 7


different countries were learning to
respect and value other cultures as
well as developing themselves by
working abroad!

AIESEC in the UK

is created!

AIESEC is
known as
inter-
continental
organization
after
expanding to
North America
• AIESEC is present in all continents
in 1965 after expanding to
Australia (1958 South America,
1963 Asia , 1964 Africa)
Today’s AIESEC
• present in over 3000 institutions of higher learning
• and has more then100 000 members across the
world
• 1,000,000+ Alumni
• 10,000 Partner organizations
• 250,000+ International Volunteer experiences
• More then 500 conferences annually
• present in 128 countries and territories
• 65 years of experience
