righteousness; achieving a higher moral standard

Examples:
• Worship more often, study

• Involves change in one’s
self and  mentality
(emphasis on individual)
3 Levels of Jihad
1. Personal Jihad (90+%)
• varying a bad habit, trying to be a better person
in some specific way
2. Social Justice (4%)
• resisting an injustice
without fighting like MLK, Gandhi
3. Just War (1%)
• to struggle or fight against an injustice
• a last resort
Guidelines for a Just War
• Must not attack civilians unless self-defense
• Treat the enemies justly
• If victorious, must be no oppression,
enslavement or injustice
• No control over source of wealth of the
nation
