“At that time, the demand for English courses that suit with their needs also
increased. Too much new ideas that be appear, such as finding a new purpose from
study language or linguistic field. Not only learn grammar anymore, but learn about
the language that use as communication in real life.” (Widowson, 1978)
Too much variety of languages and there are differences between english course for
commerce and engineering. We know that English Languange which one needed
specifically for study can be identified by it’s linguistic characteristics. So, revolution in
lingustic is the one of reason why ESP can be appear. As we known, ESP principle is;

“tell me what you need English for and I will tell you the English that you need”

psychological and pressure from the student’s need for English are
the factors why ESP can be increase.” (e. g Rodgers, 1969)

• We can see that every students have a specific interest, so their

have a different necessary also. Such as English for commerce
major so different with English for engineering major.

• This approach underlying by relation between English course with

the specific needs. It can increase student’s motivation and with
this way it can make student can be better learning.
