sinner • Romans 3:23, 19. The law gives us, as sinners, a knowledge of sin and condemns us. • 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; • 19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. • Wages of sin is death -Romans 6:23 • 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. • Law defines sin -1 John 3:4 • 4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. •10 commandments being transgressed –Romans 7:7 •7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. What the law cannot do for the sinner • Romans 3:20. The law cannot forgive or justify the sinner. • 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. • Romans 8:7. It cannot make a carnal mind subject to the law. • 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. •Law still demands death – Hebrews 9:22 •22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. What Christ does for the sinner • John 3:17, 18. Christ does not condemn the sinner, for he is already condemned. • 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. • 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God • Acts 13:38, 39. Christ forgives, or justifies, him. • 38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: • 39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. • 1 Corinthians 1:30. He is our righteousness and sanctification. • 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption • Ephesians 2:8-10. Salvation is the work of grace through faith. • 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: • 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. • 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. • Romans 1:16, 17. The gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation. • 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek SALVATION BY GRACE • Grace – the kindness that God shows to human race • It is favor to one who is undeserving and to one who is lost • Grace is a gift from God – Ephesians 4:7 • 7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ • Grace was freely given – Romans 3:24 • 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: • It is bestowed upon sinful men – 1 Timothy 1:12, 13 • 12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; • 13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. • Grace is promised to the humble – 1 Peter 5:5 • 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. • Grace enables men to lead simple life – simple and sincere with others – 2 Corinthians 1:12 • 12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward • Through grace we may do God’s work – 1 Corinthians 3:10 • 10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth there upon • Grace bestows unmerited favor –Even to gentiles through faith in Jesus -Romans 4:16 • 16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, • God shows His mercy – Romans 9:16 • 16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. • Grace sufficient for all human needs – 2 Corinthians 12:9 • 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. •Salvation is by grace – Acts 15:11, Titus 3:7 •15:11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. •3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life Sinners are justified by grace- Romans 7:21-24 • 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. • 22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: • 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. • 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? • It is a free gift –Ephesians 4:7 • 7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. • Christ mediator between God and man – 1 Timothy 2:5 • 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus •Self need to die in us –Galatians 2:20 •20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. ROMANS 5:20 •As sins increased God’s grace increased •20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
