GRACE

What the law does for the

sinner
• Romans 3:23, 19. The law gives us, as sinners, a knowledge of sin
and condemns us.
• 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
• 19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to
them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped,
and all the world may become guilty before God.
• Wages of sin is death -Romans 6:23
• 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
• Law defines sin -1 John 3:4
• 4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is
the transgression of the law.
•10 commandments being
transgressed –Romans 7:7
•7 What shall we say then? Is the law
sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known
sin, but by the law: for I had not
known lust, except the law had said,
Thou shalt not covet.
What the law cannot do for the
sinner
• Romans 3:20. The law cannot forgive or justify the
sinner.
• 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no
flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the
knowledge of sin.
• Romans 8:7. It cannot make a carnal mind subject
to the law.
• 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God:
for it is not subject to the law of God, neither
indeed can be.
•Law still demands death –
Hebrews 9:22
•22 And almost all things are
by the law purged with blood;
and without shedding of blood
is no remission.
What Christ does for the sinner
• John 3:17, 18. Christ does not condemn the sinner, for he is
already condemned.
• 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world;
but that the world through him might be saved.
• 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that
believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not
believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God
• Acts 13:38, 39. Christ forgives, or justifies, him.
• 38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that
through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
• 39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from
which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
• 1 Corinthians 1:30. He is our righteousness and sanctification.
• 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us
wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption
• Ephesians 2:8-10. Salvation is the work of grace through faith.
• 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God:
• 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
• 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good
works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
• Romans 1:16, 17. The gospel of Christ is the power of God unto
salvation.
• 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of
God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and
also to the Greek

evil is present with me.

man:
• 23 But I see another law in my members, warring
against the law of my mind, and bringing me into
captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
• 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver
me from the body of this death?

and gave himself for me.
ROMANS 5:20
•As sins increased God’s grace
increased
•20 Moreover the law entered, that
the offence might abound. But
where sin abounded, grace did
much more abound:
