CHARACTERISTICS
OF A SUCCESSFUL
RESEARCH
To describe and to easily
remember the characteristics of
a successful researcher, we use
the following acronym:
R.E.S.E.A.R.C.H.E.R
RESEARCH – ORIENTED
A researcher is a
research-oriented if
he is curious and
wants to find out the
intricacies of thins.
EFFICIENT
Being efficient is when you use
properly your time, effort, and
cost for an intended purpose.
In short statement, efficiency is
doing things right.
SCIENTIFIC
A researcher does not
readily accept conclusions.
He follows the scientific
method in finding out
answers to their queries.
EFFECTIVE
Being effective means doing
the right things. Errors cannot
be avoided but can be foreseen.
A proper protocol has to be
developed for these errors to be
minimized.
ACTIVE
A researcher always
responds to the
challenges of the
modern world.
RESOURCEFUL
Even if the researches
are limited, he can still
make use of the
available materials to
compensate for the
CREATIVE
Researchers always
have novel ideas in his
minds.
 He makes use of his
creativity to think of
unique ways in order to
HONEST
Whatever the results of his
investigations may be, a researcher
reports these in his write-up. Even
the situation is for or against his
expectations, he makes it sure that
he reports his findings.
ECONOMICAL
Because of limited
resources, a successful
researcher makes it a
point that these resources
will not be wasted.
RELIGIOUS
A researcher is faithful to do the
tasks he is expected to do. He
does the research earnestly and
does not give up easily even if
non-favorable situations may
arise.
CHARACTERISTICS OF
A SUCCESSFUL
RESEARCHER
EMPIRICAL
Research is based on
observations and
experimentation of
theories.
SYSTEMATIC
Research follows orderly
and sequential
procedures, based on
valid procedures and
principles.
CONTROLLED
In research, all variables,
except those that are
tested/experimented on,
are kept constant.
EMPLOYS HYPOTHESIS
The hypothesis
guides the
investigation
process.
ANALYTICAL
There is a critical analysis
of all date used so that
there is no error in the
researcher’s interpretation.
OBJECTIVE
Research as
unbiased and
logical.
ORIGINAL WORK
Requires effort to get at
the researcher’s own
investigation and produce
the data needed to
complete the study.
THE RESEARCH
PROCESS
KEY CONCEPTS:
How is researched conducted?
The research process is very
much similar to the process of
scientific inquiry. Since research
is a science, it also follows the
steps in the scientific method.
