Solar water distiller using a

parabolic solar
Done by Rapayi Tapiwa Chemical Eng HND
Introduction
• A solar water distiller is a distiller which uses solar energy to distil
water
• Solar energy is renewable and it’s free
• The intensity of the sun can be multiplied by a concentration ratio of
30-80
• The peak optical efficiency of a parabolic trough is in the range of 70-
80%.
Objectives
• To develop safer, reliable, and user-friendly solar distiller to be
generally used for water distillation.
Problem and justification
• -electrical distiller have a higher operating costs

• - They make use of both direct and diffuse solar radiation

• - They make use of both direct and diffuse solar radiation
• - They make use of both direct and diffuse solar radiation
Methodology
• A parabolic trough is constructed as a long parabolic mirror that is
usually coated silver or polished aluminium. It has a boiler at the focal
point of the mirror.
• Sunlight is reflected off of the mirrors and is concentrated on the
boiler. The figure below is a drawing of how the sunlight hits and is
reflected off of the parabolic trough.
