Description of Test Situation

The background of the school


Location : Rural Area
Subject : Malaysian University English Test (MUET)
Test Takers : Lower Six Students
Enrolment : 40 students
Level of Proficiency : Intermediate (mixed abilities)
Focused Skill : Speaking
Design Stage

Test Purpose

to measure the ability to communicate using the target


language (English)

to prepare the students to sit for the national level MUET

Characteristics of the Test Takers

Age : 18 years old


Sex : Male and Female

Most of them have fulfilled the requirements


based on their Malaysia Certificate of Education (SPM)

The students have the ability to understand English


Language adequately
Definition of Construct

The test is to measure to ability of the students to


converse in English and to use it in their daily contact

Students are tested based on prior knowledge and


they are required to apply all the skills of speaking learnt in
the classroom.

The topics usually concerning on socio-cultural,


economic, science and technology, sports, environment,
education and health.

The test is based on the syllabus specifications
that the students have to cover through the
process of learning

The development of the test have to undergo


several stages to ensure the suitability of the test
before can be implemented

The test also to measure the weaknesses and the

to occupy the students with the types of strategies
