TIME FOR EVERYTHING
• Take time to work, it is the price of success
• Take time to think, it is the source of power
• Take time to play, it is the source of youth
• Take time to read, it is the source of wisdom
• Take time to love, it is the privilege of Gods
• Take time to serve, it is the purpose of life
• Take time to laugh, it is the music of the soul
Daily Time Log
• Shade in a daily time log with how you spent
your 24 hours yesterday. Make notes on how
you spent time in each category.
• Large group discussion:
– How easy/difficult was this to fill out?
– What were high or low points from yesterday?
– How would you categorize your daily activities?
– Anything you want to do more or less?
– Are any categories empty?

several members will share what 24 hours
might be like for someone they serve.

On average:
 25 Years in Sleep
 8 Years in Study & Education
 6 Years in Rest & Illness
 7 Years in Holidays & Recreation
 5 Years in Commuting
 4 Years in Eating
 3 Years in Transition – in getting ready
to undertake all the above activities.

HOW OUR TIME IS WASTED?

The average office


worker wastes 4 Hrs
and 39 Mts of work
time a week.
Such squandering
cost US employers
$170 billion in 1986
alone.
TELEVISION USE
 The average television use per US household per day
is 6 Hrs, 59 Mts.

 We see one million commercials before the age of 21!


(P.S. As far as I know, all of these statistics are
made up, but you get the point!)

for Managing Time
1. SET S M A R T GOALS and DEADLINES.

2. Break long term plans into weekly and


daily action plans.

3. Think through your day, week & month in


advance to fit everything in.

4. Delegate tasks which are not time


effective for you to do.

5.Prioritize your daily work plans.

6. Avoid distraction.

7. Reward yourself when you meet your


deadlines.

8. Enjoy everything you do.

9. Beware of procrastination.

10.Learn to say ‘no’


Break Down Long Term Goals
• Select ONE of your goals or expectations for
your year of service (can include your capacity
building project!).
• First use a long term plan worksheet to break
goal into monthly & weekly BENCHMARKS.
• Create a TO-DO LIST for this coming week.
• Finally, PRIORITIZE your tasks from most to
least important and assign time estimates.
END RESULT?
MANAGING TIME WELL WILL HELP
 INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY. Get more things
done and meet deadlines.

 AVOID STRESS/TENSION. Take care of your


health, feel more relaxed & in control of
your time gives you peace of mind and
happiness.

 AVOID MISSING APPOINTMENTS.

 GIVE YOU QUALITY TIME and time to spend


with your family.
