Parthenium ~ at a glance!!
 Parthenium popularly known as
Congress weed.

 Accidentally introduced in India in

around 1956 and has since spread
over most part of the country.

 Contact causes dermatitis in human

and respiratory problems.

 Parthenium is reported as promising

remedy against ~ Hepatic amoebiasis,
Neuralgia.

 Jamaica: Used as a Flea-repellent both

for dogs and other animals. 2
Larvae ~ collected from Delhi

Colony maintained~ 28 + 1oC, 80 + 5% RH

Adult food ~ Unseeded raisins

Blood meals ~ female mosquitoes ~ restrained albino rats in the cages

Eggs collected in bowls

Kept in cages and allowed to hatch in enamel trays

Larvae were fed upon a mixture of yeast powder ,grinded dog biscuits .
.

 The powdered leaves was soaked
in 1000ml of:-
 Acetone, benzene, hexane ,diethyl
ether and petroleum ether
separately.

Now ,the soaked material

was left undisturbed for 5
days .
4
 Vaccum Rotary Evaporator:
 Use: To Concentrate the
crude extract.
 Concentrated at 45°C under
low pressure.
 Resultant

 Levels of active constituents in extract

 Responsible for the variability in their action against A.

aegypti.

 This Knowledge helps in designing and implementing an

effective strategy from a resistance-management
perspective against A. aegypti

FUTURE PROSPECTIVE
 Botaincal extract can be used as an insecticides

 Isolating main Alkaloids to use in pure form

Major use : - Parthenium is used here as a bio agent to

control mosquito that is key factor specially in
Delhi,India.

 Making Parthenium more useable to control it

To study its effect on non-target organism 10
