FACILITIES
Facilities
are the actual physical locations in the
supply chain network where product is stored,
assembled, or fabricated.
Information
is potentially the biggest driver of
performance in the supply chain.

FACILITY RELATED METRICS
Capacity: measures the maximum amount a facility can
process.
Utilization: the fraction of capacity currently being used in
the facility.
Processing/ setup/down/idle time: the fraction of time that
the facility was unavailable.
Production cost per unit: average cost to produce a unit of
output.
Quality loses: measure the fraction of production lost as a
result of defects.
Theoretical flow/cycle time of production: the time required
to process a unit
FACILITY RELATED METRICS
Actual average flow/ cycle time: measures the average actual
time taken for all units processed over a specified duration.
Flow time efficiency: is the ratio of theoretical flow time to
the actual average flow time.
Product variety: the number of products or product families
processed in a facility.
Average production batch size: measures the average amount
produced in each production batch.
Production service level: fraction of production orders
completed on time and in full.
ROLE OF INVENTORY IN THE SUPPLY
CHAIN
Inventory
exist in the supply chain because of a
mismatch between supply and demand.
Safety
inventory: is inventory held in case demand
exceeds expectation; it is held to counter uncertainty.
