HOT OILS
A hot oil manicure is simple and takes no longer to do than a basic water manicure.
This service is especially effective for dry, brittle nails, and for everyone in the cold
winter months. Lotion warmers are inexpensive tools that turn an ordinary manicure
into an extraordinary indulgence. As a luxury service, you can also charge more for
this service, thereby increasing your income.
natural oils (olive oil, almond oil, castor oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, sesame oil,
mineral oil, tea tree oil, vitamin E oil etc.)
PARAFFIN WAX
Paraffin wax has a very high heat capacity, meaning it is able to absorb and retain a
great amount of heat.
A paraffin wax spa takes advantage of paraffin's heat-retaining capacity in a simple
process called heat transfer.
In technical terms, heat is transferred to the core of the affected area as paraffin goes
through a phase change.
As it melts, the paraffin becomes a liquid and is able to retain more heat.
Then, when a hand, foot, or other area is dipped into the heated bath, the phase of the
paraffin that surrounds the dipped area quickly changes into a solid.
The heat that is given off is called the heat of fusion.
PARAFFIN WAX
HAND/FOOT MASK
Think of a face mask...except for your hands.
It’s exactly what it sounds like — creamy,
moisturizing, hydrating, nutrient-filled
goodness for your hands.

Hand masks work just like face masks. They

sit on your skin, infusing and trapping in
moisture and nutrients. You apply the thick
mask to the backs of your hands and leave it
for a while (usually around 10-20 minutes)
as it soaks in and works its moisturizing
magic.

THE SKELETAL SYSTEM
ACTIVITY 2
Use the Internet to find the skeletal system for:
a. Lower arm and hand
b. Lower leg and foot

Draw and label the skeletal system.

THE SKELETAL SYSTEM
Lower arm and hand

 Humerus : Articulates mainly with one of the two forearms bones.

 Ulna : Creating a hinge joint.
 Radius : Attached to the ulna at the elbow.
 Carpus (wrist) : Flexible joint composed of 8 small bones held together by ligaments. The
bones of the hand connected to those of the lower arm by tendons.
 Metacarpus (palm) : The main part of the hand. Has five long metacarpal bones.
 Phalanges (fingers) : Forms by 14 phalangeal bones. Each finger has three phalanges whereas
the thumb has only two.
THE SKELETAL SYSTEM
Lower leg and foot

 Femur (thigh bone) : The longest bone in the human body. Extends from the hip to the knee. It
articulates with one of the lower leg bones, the tibia.
 Tibia : at a hinge joint. Runs down the centre and inside of the leg.
 Patella : Extra bone that acts as a protective, the patella.
 Talus : One of the ankle bones. Articulates with the tibia at the ankle.
 Fabula : The smaller bone. Articulates with the tibia at the knee then runs down the outside of the leg
to articulate.
 Tarsals : Glide over each other to form the ankle.
 Calcaneus : The heel of the foot.
 Metatarsals : The five bones that can be felt on the upper foot.
 Phalanges : Three bones for the smaller toes and two for the big toe.
