 In this module the learner is taught to recognise


the main areas of cost of building development
and how to achieve value for money for an
individual project, together with techniques used
to provide this service.
 


 The aims under this module is to expand and


develop on the learning achieved by the student
in RECE 3013 in respect to the student¶s ability
to apply their understanding of building
technology, measurement, prices and
procurement methods to managing and control
of the cost and value of a building project with
reference to capital and running costs applicable
to the operating life of the building.

 Demonstrate a sound knowledge


and understanding of the concept of
Cost & Value Management under the
headings included in module content
 Demonstrate his/her ability to apply
this understanding to problem based
questions relating to the role they will
fulfil in the workplace
 Have the knowledge and
understanding of the concept of Cost
& Value Management which will
allow them apply and develop this
learning when they join the
construction industry on graduation.

examples, and workshop tutorials.

 In Ireland our National Standard Building Elements are


based on those agreed for international use by Cis (The
International Council for Research and Documentation)
 Standard elements are common to Architects, Engineers
and Quantity Surveyors and therefore facilitate co-
ordinated working between all design team members.
The concept of standard elements is the cornerstone of
the whole design cost control process.
 C & V management is primarily concerned with design
cost control on behalf of the building owner.
