AY 2011-2012
PRESIDENT
ROLAND ANGELES
WHAT IS YOUR VISION
FOR MSS NEXT SCHOOL
YEAR?
I wish for the MSS to evolve into the even more powerful and dynamic organization it has the potential
to be and represent even more what a UP Medical student should be. I aspire for the organization to
reach new heights, seize the intra-campus scene, and offset erroneous misconceptions and negative
perceptions it may have incurred. Specifically, I aim for the MSS to expand its artillery of activities from
just its usual armaments composed of circumcision medical missions, FATE, TRP, COWS and ICPC, and
include an array of innovative undertakings that builds on the other facets of the organization such as
multi-skill competency, service, socio-civic awareness, and medical knowledge advancement. Corollary
to this is the engagement in activities geared towards provision of maximal benefits and opportunities
for growth to the organization’s constituents, while mutually imparting key contributions to the UPCM
community and beyond. For this to materialize, it is but imperative that the MSS undergo innovative
restructuring and refurbish its annual scheme, to pave the way for timely enhancements in response to
its growing membership while ensuring that tradition is not neglected.
To succeed in these endeavors however, it is necessary to maintain the current rate of expansion and
to generate new experiences that may pique the interests of constituents (both old and new) and
potential applicants. More aggressive publicity and marketing of the MSS essential tenets should be
carried out to address the former, while generation of new experiences to pique the interests of
constituents (old and new) and potential applicants, to address both. A key element in this is to design
a scheme in which intrinsic motivation to work for the organization’s principles is developed in our
members.
Specific
visions/recommendations for
the incoming year are as
follows:
For the new members to be given freer reigns and more authority to decide on activities or projects they wish to carry out in
the pursuit of their interests or what they think the MSS needs. For the MSS to maintain an environment where new
members are ensured that they can provide productive inputs without fear of reproach or unenthusiastic reception.
For communication lines to be improved by making use of technology easily available today. Such examples include using
video streaming technology to augment general assemblies, restructuring the info-dissemination system and taking
advantage of popular internet-based social networks to facilitate easy communication among members. General assemblies
should be appropriated with adequate funding to ensure proper venues and equipment. These tasks should be allotted with
I propose this task to be carried out by an expanded Secretariat committee/Internal affairs committee composed not only of
a single individual but an aggregate of members. This is all the more necessary because improved communication has
become even more vital and difficult to achieve due to the large increase in membership.
For the executive committee to hold true to the agreements and recommendations that materialized during the TRP
Convention last February.
For the publicity committee to be more aggressive in showcasing the MSS vision-mission, principles and essence,
particularly targeting the younger populations. Pursuant with the recommendations during the last TRP convention, I will
encourage the publicity committee to embark on a commitment to generate marketing materials – a video profile of the
MSS and TRP at the very least.
For the socials committee to take up the challenge of becoming the means for MSS to reach out to its members (in
cooperation with the acads and special proejects committee), and provide avenues to build rapport among members
through simple activities such as detox nights (sports fests, movie nights, food trips, etc.) and regular team-building
activities.
For the membership committee to increase recruitment in LUs I-II, and to maintain the current gusto in recruitment for the
rest of the years. Also, innovations in regards to the usual recruitment and initiation scheme will be encouraged.
For the special projects committee to strengthen its social arm and be a bridge or a means for the MSS
to provide substantial contributions to the UPCM community and the Philippine society. I will
recommend also that the special projects committee provide members with alternative avenues for
growth (alternative to academic avenues), such as skill enhancement activities targeting technological
know-how, leadership, career opportunities, and the like.
For the academics committee to continue bolstering the academic endeavors of its members. It is
recommended that it be the counterpart of the special projects inside the organization – that it aim to
provide substantial contributions to the members and assist them in achieving success in their main
undertaking: their medical education.
To provide logistics support and marketing support to the finance committee who will remain to be the
backbone of all MSS activities. It will be recommended that some of the burdens of the finance
committee be alleviated by having other committees organize at least 1 income-generating activity.
Meanwhile, the finance committee will be encouraged to obtain partnerships with corporate sponsors
throughout the year, with the assistance of the publicity committee (who will create the org profiles,
etc. often asked for by willing companies).
For the TRP to explore new territories and not shy away from innovations and improvements. The
recommendations during the TRP Convention will be strongly recommended to the future TRP team,
with emphasis on illuminating the principles and process behind the event, and making it play a more
pivotal role in the UPCM community.

HOPEE SAGAYAGA
WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR MSS NEXT SCHOOL YEAR?
1. More O.C.-ily-planned activities and projects like FATE and TRP
How? Oversight (a.k.a. pangungulit sa project heads :) =p, early
dissemination of task assignments, OC-OC tables (to borrow from MSSR =p
para malinaw ang task assignments and deadlines, etc.)
2. More projects for our own MSS members – para naman masabi ng
members natin na may benefit na makukuha sa pagsali nila sa MSS.
3. More love for the org! Dahil we’ve been through a lot, and it’s been
tested many many times, solid pa rin tayo at nagmamahalan. Dahil masaya
sa MSS!
4. Nandito pa rin ang MSS! MSS has survived 37 fun and challenging years,
dadagdagan pa natin ‘yan! We’ll get through anything!
