Limitations of 3G

 Projected data rate of 3G is 2Mbps.

 Actual data rate is from few b/s to few Kbps.
 Also these depends on user activities.

 less coverage area.

 It is difficult to provide a full range of multirate

services all with different QoS and

performance requirement.
 Integration between different network is also not

possible at same QoS.

Drivers of 4G
One of the terms popularly used to describe 4G is

“ MAGIC”

 Mobile Multimedia
 Anytime anywhere
 Global mobility support
 Integrated wireless solutions
 Customized personal services
Key Elements of 4G vision
Introduction to iBurst
The iBurst system is a mobile broadband Internet access system
that provides end users with:
 Internet access service comparable to DSL and cable
 Mobility: Anywhere, anytime access with the freedom to move
 Open access: Access all users’ favorite Internet content,
applications and services, including email, corporate VPNs,
VoIP, video streaming, on-line gaming, etc
 Simplicity: Easy to obtain and use plug it in, turn it on
 Projected data rate of iBurst is around 100Mbps and for
vehicular speed upto 120Kmph it is 2Mbps.

 3 uplink/downlink slots per frame

 One third of slot for uplink and two thirds for downlink

 2:1 asymmetry

Wireless Security using iBurst
iBurst has three protocol based security mechanisms:

 i-TAP(i – Terminal Authorization Protocol) for Device

Authentication
 Prevents session theft on start up and subsequently at any
point where handover from one BS to other occurs.

 uses two public key cryptography schemes

A. Elliptical Curve Cryptography for secret exchange
B. Signed Digital certificates using rsa 1024 algorithm
 i- HAP for Network Authentication

1. process by which UT validates that it is

communicating with is an authorized iBurst BS.
2. It uses Elliptical curve Cryptography .
3. Each BS has a digital certificate containing a
public /private ECC pair

 i-SEC (Radio Link Encryption)

1. provide security over the air traffic between

UT’s and BS’s
2. Confidentiality of data is assured by encrypting
both the user and control messages between the
UT and BS using secret key which is set
dynamically for each session based on RC44
stream encryption.
Conclusion

iBurst is definitely going to be the future of our communication

system which is going to remove most of the hap hazards that
are present today with a definite and rise in data transferring
rate and also the security of the data and removes the saturation
in communication and will revolutionize the communication
system.
