Reminder CEAC

 Capacity of OPzS Solar elements is in 120H

 Optimum DOD: 15 à 20% of C120.
 Exceptional DOD = 80% of C120.
 The energy balance of the system must be positive
 End of discharge voltage in C120 = 1,85V. (Load cut off)
 Safety voltage:
Safety low voltage = 1,90V.
Safety high voltage = 2,50V.

 Electrolytestratification to be avoided by eletrolyte mixing with

overcharging or mixing device
 Deep discharge could lead to cure charging

OPzS Solar maintenance CEAC

Maintenance for OPzS solar batteries consist of

 Level topping up
 Density checking before topping up
 Cleaness check
 Connection check
 Destrtaification load if necessary
 Cure charge if necessary

6
OPzS Solar maintenance CEAC

Level topping up
The mantenance frequency for solar batteries is very low, it is inferior to
the maintenance required by the charge controller
But at each visit to the site it will be good to top up the batteries
 Switch charging profile including morning gas charge
 1 year
 Switch profile with set points at 2,23Vand 2,27V, with use of Fulmix
device
 Frequency 2 to 5 years

Befor topping up batteries you must check the battery electrolyte

density
 Density must be as follows:
Level at MAXI and full SOC estimated = 1,240 ±0,01
Level at MAXI and 80% OSC estimated = 1,210 ±0,01
Level at AVERAGE and full SOC = 1,260 ±0,01
Level at AVERAGE and 80% SOC = 1,230 ±0,01
 Ifthe values are below it means, either that the SOC is lower or that
there is an electrolyte stratification
 A destratification charge must be conducted, if not sufficient a cure
charge must be conducted

Cleaness and connection checking

When topping up the batteries :
 Clean the cells lid
AND
 Check connections
Remove sulfatation tracks with water or Ammonia solution (4%)
Grease the connections with silicon grease

Checck the tightening torque of the connections.

9
OPzS Solar maintenance CEAC

Destratification charge :
 At least weekly when no Fulmix or morning gassing

 Levels :
 Leave voltage up to 2,60V or maintain over 2,45V during 3 to 5 hours

10

Cure charging
 If the battery is deeply discharged > 35% DOD, a cure charging must
be conducted
 In case the battery remains discharged for a long period, a cure charge
is required.

11

Cure charging procedure

Charge the battery between 0,02 and 0,04 C100 until end of charge signs

Voltage stabilisation of decrease due to temperature effect.

Density close to start up values

Electrolyte temperature must not exceed 45°C during charge. Otherwise

reduce the charging current or stop the charge until cooling
