LEED:

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards make up a rating

system based on standards created by the United States Green Building Council USGBC
(United States Green Building Coalition), Ê Ê
Ê Ê Ê Ê
). hese LEED standards have been created to evaluate how a building
performs in terms of its impact on the environment. Criteria used to evaluate a building include
sustainable construction, water efficiency, energy use and emissions, indoor environmental
quality, and location. Structures that meet these criteria are referred to as green buildings.
Various measures can be taken, for both new construction and the renovation of existing
structures, to improve their LEED ratings.
LEED Rating Systems:
LEED rating systems represent international standards of certification that recognize
environmentally sustainable design, construction, operation, and maintenance of residential and
commercial buildings.
LEED rating systems provide four certification levels for the environmental sustainability
of the sites they measure:
‡ Certified
‡ Silver
‡ Gold
‡ Platinum.
hese relate to the building ratings in the following categories:
‡ Materials and resources
‡ energy and atmosphere
‡ sustainability
‡ water efficiency
‡ indoor environmental quality. ‡ Innovation and design.
LEED rating systems allow buildings to lower operational costs while potentially increasing
asset value. his help reduce waste and increase conservation of energy and water. hese
sites can provide more healthful and safe interaction with their human occupants.

LEED jeits:
(LEED) credits are a series of qualifications that were devised to rate the effectiveness
of green building.
he LEED credits are given according to a 100 pint scale. here are also additional
bonus points available in increments of 10, primarily for special regional
considerations.
F the entity t eeive etifiatin, it m st eeive at least 26 pints.
here are several levels of certification, the attainment of which depends on the
number of LEED credits given.
‡ he basic certification level is from 26 to 32 points.
‡ In order to achieve the middle levels ² silver and gold ² the entity must receive
33 to 38 and 39 to 51 points respectively.
‡ he top level is platinum which requires a minimum of 52 points.

And these credits are given according to the six categories mentioned before dealing
by the LEED checklist.
