THE BHOPAL DISASTER

The Bhopal disaster or Bhopal Gas Tragedy is the world's worst industrial catastrophe. It occurred on the night of December 2-3, 1984 at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India.

FACTORS. . .
Factors leading to the magnitude of the gas leak include: MIC in large tanks Poor maintenance after the plant ceased MIC production at the end of 1984 Failure of several safety systems (due to poor maintenance) Safety systems being switched off to save money including the MIC tank refrigeration system which could have mitigated the disaster severity The problem was made worse by the mushrooming of slums in the vicinity of the plant, non-existent catastrophe plans, and shortcomings in health care and socio-economic rehabilitation.
Storing

MIC (METHYL ISOCYANATE)

MIC is an organic comppound with the molecu8lar formula C 2 H3 NO as arranged H3 C-N=C=O. MIC is an intermediate chemical in the production of carbanate pesticides.

BHOPAL DISASTER HAPPENED. . .

ONGOING CONTAMINATION
In 2009, a day before the 25th anniversary of the disaster, Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a Delhi based pollution monitoring lab, released latest tests from a study showing that groundwater in areas even three km from the factory up to 38.6 times more pesticides than Indian standards.

SH&E - EVERYONES RESPONSIBILITY

It is everyone's responsibility to work safely. Whatever observations you make of the people working around you, you must be comfortable about the situation you are witnessing. If you witness an unsafe act, and do nothing about it, then effectively you have just become party to that act. If you see and ignore an unsafe act, then you have set a standard that others may believe is acceptable. If you do an unsafe act in front of your workmates, then you condone the act and have set a precedent for others to follow. Remember, the standard you walk past, is the standard you get. Dont walk past. Stop, and correct the behaviour.

CONCLUSION. . .
Good management system is very important in our activities for example in a company. If there is a little missmanagement can cause disaster especially damage our environment . Not only for a short term efect but also for a long term effect as well as bhopal disaster in 1984 at UCIL (India). The effects not only destroy environment but also human health. Many illness are effected by this disaster such as short term health effects and long term health effects. All effect is very dangerous to human and environment.
