Fictional Gemstones

Presented by: Roxenette Gil B. Pangilinan

Arkenstone
The Arkenstone (or "Heart of the Mountain") of Thrin was a wondrous large gold gem sought by Thorin Oakenshield in J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. It was discovered beneath Erebor (the Lonely Mountain) by Thorin's ancestor Thrin and shaped by the Dwarves. The Arkenstone shone of its own inner light, but having been cut and fashioned by the Dwarves, it also reflected and multiplied any light glancing upon its surface with marvellous beauty.

Bhelliom
Bhelliom (also called the 'Sapphire Rose' and 'Blue-Rose') is a fictional sapphire jewel of unlimited power from The Elenium and The Tamuli by David Eddings. Bhelliom is thrown into an ocean at the end of The Elenium. It is retrieved in the second book of The Tamuli. Throughout The Tamuli it was revealed that Bhelliom is in fact a sentient being, whose purpose is the creation of planets; the Troll Gods, which were released from the gem later in the series, refer to Bhelliom as World-Maker. It is also revealed that Bhelliom implanted the notion into Aphrael to have the rings on Sparhawk's and Ehlana's ancestors, and that the rings themselves were nothing more than a deception designed to fool Ghwerig. Bhelliom resumed it's journey among the stars at the end of The Hidden City.

Chaos Emerald
The Chaos Emeralds ( Kaosu Emerarudo?) are seven fictional emeralds from the Sonic the Hedgehog video games. The Chaos Emeralds have mystical properties and abilities, and the holder of them all can use them for a variety of purposes, including transforming into a powerful super form. Each emerald is composed of positive and negative charged materials which make them an everlasting source of energy and allow them to float in the air.

Heart of the Ocean

The Heart of the Ocean is a a blue diamond necklace featured in the 1997 film Titanic. It is based on the famous Hope Diamond (which never traveled on the Titanic).

Isidar Mithrim
Isidar Mithrim, which means, Star Rose, in the Dwarvish Language, is the star located at the heights of Tronjheim, a Dwarf city located in Farthern Dur, in the Inheritance Trilogy.

Kyrptonite
Kryptonite is a fictional substance from the Superman radio show series (and subsequent related media, most notable the comic books). The word kryptonite is used in speech to describe someone's or something's weakness. The material, usually shown as having been created from the remains of Superman's native planet of Krypton, generally has detrimental effects on Superman. The name "kryptonite" covers a variety of forms of the substance, but usually refers to the most common "green" form.

Orb of Aldur
The Orb of Aldur is a blueglowing rock in the fictional series The Belgariad and also The Malloreon, by David Eddings. It was crafted from a riverstone by the god Aldur. Aldur constantly turned the riverstone in his hands and after considerable time it was moulded into the Orb. Whether Aldur fashioned the Orb himself or whether it came into being and he merely noticed it is never made entirely clear.

Philosophers Stone
The philosopher's stone (Latin: lapis philosophorum; Greek: chrysopoeia) is a legendary substance, supposedly capable of turning inexpensive metals into gold; it was also sometimes believed to be a means of making people younger. For a long time it was the "holy grail" of Western alchemy.

The Tears of All Oceans

The Tears of All Oceans are a group of jewels from the Redwall novel The Pearls of Lutra by Brian Jacques. Six perfectly formed, pink pearls, the Tears of All Oceans were the most valuable possessions of the otters of Holt Lutra, on the coast of Mossflower country. Under the orders of Ublaz Mad-Eyes, a ship of pirates sailed in and destroyed the Holt, stealing the Pearls and preparing to return to Ublaz's keep. Unfortunately for the insane Emperor, the Pearls were stolen by a pair of pirates.
