Design Engineers job


Completely technical; takes a long time to acquire skills. Most respected function within the company. Designer plays a vital role in the growth of the company and in management decision making. In developed countries most of qualified engineers work in design and only they rise to become the CEOs of companies in technology-intensive industries. An experienced designer is the most sought after person in any industry and is highly paid.

Levels of design skills


A. Detailing: AutoCad, any other 2-D or 3-D Cad B. Modeling and simulation: Any 3-D Cad : Catia, ProE, SolidWorks, UG etc. C. Analysis: Ansys, Nastran, fluent etc. D. Industry specific detailing, designing, analysis (piping, plant, architecture, mechanism, auto, industrial design, rapid prototyping, mold design etc) Cadworx, Ceaser, Pvelite, Aspentech, Sporlan, Adams, moldflow , Rhino, 3DS etc

Why acquire CAD skills?


Knowledge of design software indicates your technical aptitude and so improves your employability in core sector. Knowledge of Cad improves your understanding of related subjects like Design, FEM, mechanics etc. Engineering Services Outsourcing is catching up in India and is expected very soon to employ larger number of engineers more gainfully than traditional IT sector. Even if you are not seeking a design engineers job, knowledge of CAD does good to your confidence levels, particularly in the job interviews.
