This project allows the display of traffic signal status on the vehicle itself. Observation of traffic signal rules. This project ensures a safe and a smart way of transportation.

Traffic density measurement using IR sensors for prioritizing road release. Automatic barricade system for a junction. Automatic speed control system for vehicles near accident-zones. Traffic signal display on the vehicle using LEDs. Obstacle detector to detect obstacles in the way and prevent crashes. The buzzer or horn is deactivated in hospital zone

Barricade

Stepper motor is used for barricade operation. Stepper motors are constant power devices that work on the principle of electromagnetism. Steppers exhibit more vibration than other motor types, as the discrete step tends to snap the rotor from one position to another. Whenever there is a yellow signal on the traffic signal pole, the stepper motor rotates few steps and the barricade will raise few inches above from the ground level . In case of the red signal on the poll, the barricade will rise completely from the ground level thus stopping the driver from jumping the signal.

The TWS-434 and RWS-434 are extremely small, and are excellent for applications requiring short-range RF remote controls. The transmitter output is up to 8mW at 433.92MHz with a range of approximately 400 foot (open area) outdoors. RF transmitter in traffic junction part is used to transmit the traffic signal status & RF receiver in the vehicle part is used to receive and display the transmitted signal on the vehicle.

DC motor is an electromechanical device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.

DC motors are available in various ratings 6v and 12v. It has 2 wires or pins when connected with power supply the shaft rotates. Run on Direct Current from a battery or D.C. power supply. When a battery or D.C. power supply is connected between a D.C. motor's electrical leads, the motor converts electrical energy to mechanical work as the output shaft turns.

When the vehicle is inside the periphery of the junction, there will be automatic speed and braking control which is managed by the microcontroller itself. when the vehicle comes out of junction, there must be manual increment/decrement of speed. In order to cater to this demand we have implemented key to speed adjustment where there are minimum, medium and maximum switches which must be operated manually by the driver the way he wants it to be. Here we are making use of Pulse width modulation to control the speed.

Road traffic congestion is reduced. The buzzer or horn is deactivated in hospital zone According to the priority of traffic density traffic signal will be operated. It helps in preventing Rash Driving by speed control. It helps in prevention of Traffic Rule Violation. Users get to know the traffic signal status on their vehicle itself. Obstacle detector to detect obstacles in the way and prevent crashes Automated braking systems helps in preventing accidents. Reduced man power.

Real time implementation of this prototype is costly. Speed control will cause hindrance in case of emergencies. Speed increase is a manual process.

FUTURE IMPLEMENTATION

Emergency services will be provided for ambulance by allotting a separate frequency. Two or more junctions can be designed to use a single RF Tx /Rx instead of independent one for each junction.

The project smart junction has been successfully completed in which barricade, obstacle detector, automatic start and stop of vehicle, IR sensors for traffic density measurement and display of signal on the vehicle using LEDs through RF transmitter and receiver have been implemented. The coding is done using Keil vision, Proload and embedded-c software. The project has enhanced infrastructure and transportation facilities. The project caters to the need of controlling the increasing Indian traffic and fulfill its objective of avoiding accidents In future, the real time implementation for more than one road can be done to give a safe and enhanced transport infrastructure in India and abroad.
