CE Dimensioning for SPICE

18 Aug, 2009

CE Definition

One Channel Element is the base band resources required in the Node-B to provide capacity for one voice channel including control plane signaling, compressed mode, transmit diversity and softer handover.

ZTE Channel Elements Features

Channel elements are pooled in one NodeB. No additional CE resource is needed for CCH The baseband processing board can process uplink and downlink resource separately. ZTEs BPC board can support 192CE for uplink and downlink respectively. The processing resource consumed by softer handover has been reserved, so softer handover doesnt consume more CE. ZTEs baseband processing board has special chip to handle the traffic of HS-PDSCH and HS-SCCH. So HSDPA downlink traffic will not consume CE. HSUPA shares CE resource with R99 services

CE Dimensioning Procedure

Subscribers per NodeB and traffic model will be the input of CE dimensioning. For CS service, CE number is calculated by using ErlangB model. Soft handover are considered. Base on the R99 CE mapping table and HSPA simulation result, the total CE per site can be calculated.

Calculation Process 1-2 (Phase 3 as Example)

Total traffic of AMR 12.2K per site = 1000 * 0.025 = 25Erl According to Erlang-B model, simultaneous link number is 34.

CEUL _ AMR12.2 LinkNumber CEfactorAMR12.2 34 1 34 CE

CE DL _ AMR12.2 LinkNumber CEfactorAMR12.2 34 1 34 CE

Total traffic of CS64Kusers per site = 1000 * 0.0025 = 2.5Erl According to Erlang-B model, simultaneous link number is 7.

CEUL _ CS 64 K LinkNumber CEfactorUL _ CS 64 K 7 2.5 18CE

Total uplink throughput of PS64K users per site = 1000 * (0.1+0.035+0.015) *30% = 45kbps Downlink throughput of PS64K users per site = 1000 *0.1 *30% = 30kbps

Same with PS64K, PS128K consumes 3CE@DL, PS384K consumes 6CE@DL

Calculation Process 2-2 (Phase 3 as Example)

CE Consumed by HSUPA If we assume that there are 4 HSUPA users per cell and throughput is 100kbps per user. Then ZTEs base processing unit will consume 20(4.8*4) CE. For HSUPA uplink and downlink associated channel, one online user will consume 0.3 CE if SRB over R99 3.4k signalling. HSUPA associated channel for 4 online users require 2CE for uplink and downlink respectively. So total CE consumed by HSUPA will be 22@UL and 2@DL. CE Consumed by HSDPA For HSDPA service, ZTE base band processing board has special chip to handle the traffic of HS-PDSCH and HS-SCCH. So traffic consumes no CE in downlink. If HSDPA downlink SRB is borne on R99 (3.4K signalling), 8 online users will consume 3 (=0.3*8) CE. So total CE consumed by HSDPA will be 3@DL. Total Required CE If consider 30% SHO Ratio Total Uplink CE = ((AMR)34+(VP)18+(PS64)3+22(HSUPA))*1.3=101 CE Total Downlink CE = ((AMR)34+(VP)13+(PS64)2+(PS128)3+(PS384)6+2(HSUPA ADCH)+3(HSDPA A-DCH))*1.3=82 CE Limited by uplink, Total CE required is 101 CE. ZTEs BPC board can hardware support 192CE. So the base band processing resource can meet the requirement.

ZTEs BPC board can hardware support 192CE. According to users number that SPICE provided and traffic model ZTE proposed, one BPC board can meet the requirement with the configuration of S111. With the further development of users and high speed data service, then the configuration of S222 and accordingly more CE will be required.
