Topics discussed
Conservation Agriculture Production Technology of Major Winter Vegetables Insect Pest Management of Major Winter Vegetables Wheat Varieties and Production Technologies Varieties and Production Technologies of Mungbean for R-Wmungbean Pattern Varieties and Production Technologies of Mustard for RM-R Pattern

Session-1: Conservation Agriculture

Considering factor Feed the soil and let the soil feed the plant Resource Conserving technologies CA based crop management technologies Three basic principles of CA 1. Minimum disturbance of soil with a potential goal to zero tillage 2. Retention of adequate and rational levels of crop residues on the soil surface 3. Use of suitable and profitable crop rotations -Ultimate Goal Economically viable, diversified crop rotations that can offer farmers new options to reduce risk

Advantages of CA
Improves physical, chemical and biological properties of soil Increase soil organic matter Reduce soil erosion and surface run-off of water Reduce weed infestation Reduce production cost Constraints of CA Lack of appropriate machineries i.e. seeders, especially for small and medium-scale farmers Competitive use of residues Burning of crop residues Mind set of farmers, scientists and policy makers

Session-2: Production Technologies of Major Winter Vegetables Production Technology of Tomato General Temperature level 150C 200C Soil pH: 6.0-7.0 Life cycle -120 150 days Hybrid plants are Homogeneous Seed sowing: September-October(winter) May-July (Summer/Rainy season) Seed rate: 200gm/ha Seedling age 30-35 days Line to line spacing: 60cm Plant to plant spacing: 40cm

Session-2: contd.
Bamboo sticking to plant Lime to be applied in case of strong acidity of soil Polythene tunnel to be established in case of summer tomato Hormone to be applied in case of summer tomato Yield: 40-90MT/ha

Session-2: contd. Brinjal: Land: All types of land Well drainage system Sandy-loam and loamy soil is suitable for brinjal cultivation Climatic condition: Winter season is suitable for brinjal cultivation 150C-200C temperature is good for brinjal cultivation Variety Local: Shingnath, Islampuri, Khotkhotia, Iswardi-1, Dohajari etc.

Session-2: Contd.
BARI released varieties Uttara, Tarapuri, Shuktara, Kajla, Nayantara, BARIBegun-6, BARIBegun-7, BARIBegun-8 Seedling transplantation 30-35 days aged seedlings 70 cm width bed 30 cm drainage between the two bed Plant to plant distance 45-50 cm in one row Seed rate: 100-135 gm/ha Yield: 30-70 MT/ha

Session-2: Bitter gourd

Seed Seed rate sowing time Bitter gourd February6-7 kg/ha May Crop Spacing (m) 1.0 X 1.5 Climatic condition Warm humidity. Growth of plant affected below temperature 140C soil Loamy soil containing organic matter and silt-loam soil

Session-2: Contd. (Bitter gourd) Seedling age: 16-17 days old seedling Seed treatment: 2 gm Vitavex/Captan/kg seed

Session-3: Insect Pest Management of Major Winter Vegetables Different borer and sucking pests are becoming serious threat to crop production, especially vegetable crops DEVELOPMENT AND DISSEMINATION OF INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGIES, WHICH MUST BE EFFECTIVE, CHEAP, SUSTAINABLE AND NON-HAZARDOUS

Major components of IPM Cultural, Physical & Mechanical, Behavioral, Biological, Use of pest resistant varieties, Use of botanicals and bio-pesticides and Chemical pesticides control as last resort.

Session-3: Contd.
IPM packages Sanitation. Pheromone bait trap. Community approach Weekly releases of two parasitoids, i) egg parasitoid, Tricogramma chilonis (@ 1gm parasitized eggs/ha/week) and ii) larval parasitoid, Bracon habetor (@ 1 bunker /ha/week). -Chemical control (not registered against cucurbit crop pests) Spinosad (Tracer 45SC) @ 0.4 ml/liter of water (PHI 3 days) Flubendiamide (Belt 24WG) @ 0.5 g/liter water (PHI 7 days) Voliam Flexi (Thiamethhoxam + Chlorantraniliprole) @ 0.5 ml/liter of water Emamectin benzoate (Proclaim 5SG) @ 1g/liter of water at 10-15 days interval 2-3 times

Session-4: Wheat varieties and production technologies

Variety selection Characteristics of good variety HYV Disease registrant Heat tolerant More tiller More grain per tiller White and large size grain Good variety Sourav Gourab Shatabdi Sufi Bijoy Prodip BARI GOM 25 BARI GOM 26

Session-4: Contd. Appropriate time for seed sowing November 15-November 30 (1-15 Agrahayan) In case of Northern region seed may be sown up to 1st week of December Seed rate 50 kg/acre BARIgom 21 (Shatabdi) is a heat tolerant variety BARIgom 24 (Prodip) contain hard glutens, so this is good for making pauruti BARIgom 25 is a saline tolerant variety , so this is good for cultivating in southern part of Bangladesh

Session-5: Varieties and production technologies of mungbean for R-W-Mungbean pattern

Crop management in Mungbean Soil :Highly drained, upland and loamy soil Land Preparation:1-2 plowing and laddering Date of Sowing: Mid March 1st week of April Variety: BARI Mung -5, BARI Mung-6, BU Mung -4, BINA Mung 5 and BINA Mung-8 Seed Rate : 18 kg/ha (S) and 22 kg/ha (B) Sowing method: Broadcast/Line sowing Cropping Season and Existing Cropping Systems T. aman rice - Mung -T. aus = Late Rabi T. aman -Vegetable/Winter crop-Mung = Kharif-1 Alternate- (i) Early rabi crops/Sugarcane- Mung -T.aus/T.aman (ii) Sugarcane + 2nd intercrop iii) Aus/Jute-Mung - Fallow = Kharif-II Alternate - Aus/Jute-Mung - Rabi crops

Session 5: contd

New potential cropping system By the inclusion of BARImung-6,the improved cropping pattern, wheat-mungbean - rice has been developed, which rotations can boosts farm productivity and soil fertility is also improved to benefit the succeeding crops.
