Trainers Guide: Connectors and measurement returnloss module

Slides 1-7 Go through the content of the course. Explain briefly what will be discussed in connection with each topic. Point out that the course will end with an examination, on the basis of which certificates will be awarded to trainees. Slide 8 Explain the basics of telecommunication, signal properties and modulation techniques. Be brief and do not go into too much detail. Avoid mathematics as far as possible.

Slides 9 - 10 Explain the concepts of spectrum and bandwidth and how they are related.

2 1

Nokia 21-01-2000

Slide 11 Relate cable properties such as characteristic impedance to the concepts previously explained, such as modulation frequency, spectrum and bandwidth.

Slides 12 - 13 Explain the relation between input and output signals and the concept of attenuation, dB, etc.

Slide 14 Explain reflection. The example of a rope fastened to a wall will help, or the example of sound waves (echoes). Slide 15 Explain skin effect and noise, and how these concepts relate to the definition of returnloss.

Nokia 21-01-2000

Slides 16 - 18 Go over cable properties using the specification sheets included in the course manual and point out items that have been discussed, such as characteristic impedance, bandwidth, etc.

Slide 19 Link the items discussed to measurement and measuring equipment. Explain that different frequencies will be delayed and attenuated differently and explain how this can be measured. Slide 20 Introduce the Anritsu family and point out certain differences between them.

2 3

Nokia 21-01-2000

Slides 21 - 22 Show examples of Site Master output and explain the various modes; point out where the items discussed can be found in the output examples. Slide 23 Introduce the examination and certification. Trainees will connect connectors and measure the cable using a Site Master.
