MONITORS

CRT-MONITORS INTODUCTION:o Monitors Are Output Device. o Crt Monitors are known as cathode ray tube. o The first cathode ray tube scanning device was invented by the

German scientist Karl Ferdinand Braun in 1897.

durable CRT for television.

o Allen B. Du Mont made the first commercially practical and

o The first commercially made electronic television sets with

cathode ray tubes were manufactured by Telefunken in Germany in 1934 which was black and white

INTODUCTION: In 1981, IBM introduced the Color Graphics Adapter (CGA), which was capable of rendering four colors, and had a maximum resolution of 320 pixels horizontally by 200 pixels vertically. The size of Crt monitors are 15 , 17, 19 , 21 inches. A cathode ray tube is a vacuum tube which consists of one or more electron guns, possibly internal electrostatic deflection plates, and a phosphor target.

STRUCTURE OF CRT MONITORS

Advantages:-

The cathode rayed tube can easily increase the monitors brightness by reflecting the light.

They produce more colours

The quality of the image displayed on a Cathode Ray Tube is superior to the LCD and Plasma

monitors. The contrast features of the cathode ray tube monitor are better than Lcd. It is cheaper than lcd ,led, plasma. It gives less maintenance.

Disadvantages: They are a big in size and take up space on

desk. Constant refreshing of CRT monitors can result in headache. CRTs operate at very high voltage ,so it consume more e electricity. They are heavy to pick up and carry around In today's world CRT MONITOR are known as old technology.

History of LCD: Liquid crystals were first discovered in 1888 by Austrian botanist Friedrich Reinitzer. Melt cholesterol-like substance. When cooled, the liquid turned blue before finally crystallizing. Radio corporation of America made the first experimental LCD in (1968). Manufacturers have been developing creative variations and improvements since on LCDs.

How does an LCD screen work!

There are 2 transparent panels that have a liquid

crystal solution between them. When light is shined through from behind the panels the crystals either allow light to pass through or block it creating an image.

Advantages: Screen Glare Price Energy Use Size Wall Mounting

Disadvantages : Limited lifetime

Low contrast ratio

High-weight Color decay

Dust blobs

History of Plasma In 1936 Klmn Tihanyi described the principle of "plasma television" and conceived the first flat-panel display system. The monochrome plasma video display was coinvented in 1964 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign by Donald Bitzer. Burroughs Corporation, a maker of adding machines and computers, developed the Paneled display in the early 1970s. The Paneled display, generically referred to as a gas-discharge or gas-plasma display

What is PLASMA!!!!!
Plasma TV is just a simple unit television of higher resolution and with better picture quality than ever before. Since the 60s there have been many advancements in high-speed digital processing and high-tech manufacturing.

Advantages Exceptional Color High Resolution Slim, Lightweight Design Price Built-in Line Doublers Widescreen Aspect Ratio Uniform Screen Brightness Flat Screens

Disadvantages Potential Burn-In

Lower Brightness Not the Lightest or Slimmest Shorter Life

History of LED
The first known report of a light-emitting solid-state

diode was made in 1907 by the British experimenter H. J. Round. The first practical LED was invented by Nick Holon yak, Jr., in 1962 while he was at General Electric Company. The first LEDs became commercially available in late 1960s. As the LED materials technology became more advanced, the light output was increased, and LEDs became bright enough to be used for illumination.

Working of LED
LED's are special diodes that emit light when

connected in a circuit. LED monitors are basically just a new kind of LCDs as they still use liquid crystals to produce desired image onscreen. LED use white diodes and they are called WLED or ELWLED. For illumination they use white diodes that are placed along the edges of the monitor matrix behind the liquid crystals as shown on the image below.

Advantages of Led
Better color reproduction.
Uses less energy. Larger LED monitors possible. Longer Lifespan.

Disadvantage of led
Price.
Contrast ratio. Uneven lighting. Extremely thin profile monitor have much worse

sound than a comparable, thicker LCD monitor.
