EFFLUENT
Effluent is an outflowing of water or gas from a natural body of water, or from a human-madestructure.

SLUDGE
Sludge refers to the residual, semi-solidmaterial left from industrial wastewater, orsewage treatment processes. It can also refer to the settled suspension obtained from conventional drinking water treatment,[1] and numerous other industrial processes.

PRIMARY TREATMENT
-Removal of solids by settling or sedimentation - usually physical processes

BAR SCREENS
To remove large material that will damage equipments or hinder treatment operation.

COMMINUTOR
To grinde solids to smaller size for higher treatment operation.

GRIT CHAMBER
To remove heavier slugs like sand/grit.

CIRCULAR CLARIFIER
To remove settleable solids. In a circular shape.

RECTANGULAR CLARIFIER
To remove settleable solids. In a rectangular shape.

SECONDARY TREATMENT
Reduction / decreasing oxygen or organic matter.

Usually biological processes

A. FIXED FILM REACTORS

TRICKLING FILTER ROTATING BIOLOGICAL CONTACTORS

consists of a fixed bed ofrocks, lava, coke, gravel, slag,p olyurethane foam, sphagnum peat moss, ceramic, or plastic media over whichsewage or other wastewater flows downward and causes a layer of microbialslime (biofilm) to grow, covering the bed of media.

a biologicaltreatment process used in the treatment ofwastewaterfollowing primary treatment.

B. SUSPENDED GROWTH
ACTIVATED SLUDGE PROCESS - Activated sludge is a process for treating sewage and industrial wastewaters usi ng air and a biological floc composed of bacteria and protozoans.

3. TERTIARY TREATMENT - Polishing or clearing up processes - removal of nutrients. 4. SOLIDS TREATMENT - Collection, stabilization and disposal of solids. 5. ADVANCED TREATMENT

HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT

Characteristic Wastes
1. Ignitability - Ignitable wastes can create fires under certain conditions, are spontaneously combustible, or have a flash point less than 60 C (140 F). Examples include waste oils and used solvents. 2. Corrosivity - Corrosive wastes are acids or bases (pH less than or equal to 2, or greater than or equal to 12.5) that are capable of corroding metal containers, such as storage tanks, drums, and barrels. Battery acid is an example. 3. Reactivity - Reactive wastes are unstable under "normal" conditions. They can cause explosions, toxic fumes, gases, or vapors when heated, compressed, or mixed with water. Examples include lithium-sulfur batteries and explosives. 4. Toxicity - Toxic wastes are harmful or fatal when ingested or absorbed (e.g., containing mercury, lead, etc.). When toxic wastes are land disposed, contaminated liquid may leach from the waste and pollute ground water.

POLLUTION

POLLUTION
Is the introduction of contaminants into a natural environment that causes instability, disorder, harm or discomfort to theecosystem i.e. physical systems or living organisms.[1] Pollution can take the form ofchemical substances or energy, such as noise, heat, or light.

HEAT POLLUTION
is a term used to describe the release of heat into the environment by human activities. [1] By contrast, global warming is thought to be the result of the increase in greenhouse gases (CO2 emissions).[2] Experts on the climate have debated the broader subject of global warming as well as its potential constituents. These include heat pollution, the greenhouse effect, and solar variation.

NOISE POLLUTION
is excessive, displeasing human, animal or machine-createdenvironmental noise that disrupts the activity or balance of human or animal life. The wordnoise comes from the Latin word nauseas, meaning seasickness.

LIGHT NOISE
Any adverse effect of artificial light including sky glow, glare, light trespass, light clutter, decreased visibility at night, and energy waste.[1]

School Prayer God, our Father, Creator of all good things in the world and within our school community: We thank you for the gift of this day, for our families and friends and for this safe place to learn and grow.

We ask You to bless all who teach and learn. Through Your Holy Spirit, guide us as we grow in faith and love and give us the courage to be more like Your Son. We ask this, in Jesus' name. Amen. ~~~~~~
