THE PERCEPTION OF THE FIRST YEAR AND

THE FOURTH YEAR HIGH SCHOOL

STUDENTS ON THE SCHOOL FACILITIES OF
ROOSEVELT COLLEGE RODRIGUEZ S.Y.
2006-2007
CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM
The Background of the Study
One of the important skills of man is knowledge.
It is an essential tool that can be used in sensing
things or having knowledge of it.
Facilities in a school are very much useful, but
did you ever think of the student’s own perception in
school’s different facilities. A normal private school
like the Roosevelt College of Rodriguez usually
offers Library, Audio Visual Room, Speech
Laboratory, Guidance Office, Records Office,
Classrooms, Computer Rooms, Canteen, Finance
Office, Comfort
The researchers have chosen this kind of
problem because they have noticed that nobody has
done this study before here in Roosevelt College of
Rodriguez.
This study looked into the student’s
perceptions on the school facilities of Roosevelt
College Rodriguez. This study helps them to give
some important information that we can use in the
future.
Theoretical and Conceptual Framework
The main concern of this study is to give the
perception of the First year and the Fourth year High
School Students in the School Facilities of Roosevelt
College Rodriguez SY: 2006-2007.
The profile of the respondents were shown in the
Paradigm such as the year Level.
The student’s perception on the school facilities
are the Library, Audio Visual Room, Speech
Laboratory, Guidance Office, Records Office,
Classrooms, Computer Rooms, Canteen, Finance
Office, Comfort Rooms, Clinic, and the Property
Office.

Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to look into the perception of the

firstyear and fourth year high school students on the
school facilities of Roosevelt College Rodriguez
SY: 2006-2007.

More specifically it will seek answer to the

following questions:
1)What is the profile of the respondents in term of
Year level?

2)What is the perception of the First Year High

School Students on the school facilities?

3)What is the perception of the Fourth Year High

School Students on the school facilities?

4)Is there any significant difference between the

perception of the first Year and the Fourth
Year High School Students in the school
facilities of Roosevelt College Rodriguez
SY:2006-2007?
Hypothesis

There is no significant difference

between the perception of the First Year
and the Fourth Year High School
Students on the School Facilities of
Roosevelt College Rodriguez SY: 2006-
2007.
Significance of the Study
This research study was made to find out the
benefits of the following individuals.

To the students: the result of this study will

help the students to benefit more in the
facilities. because the school administration will
change the process of proper usage and
improvement of the facilities.
To the teachers: the result of this study
will help the teachers to improve their way of
teaching easier and even faster.

To the Administrators: the result of this

study will help the Administrators to have the
knowledge and information on the requirements
they need on how to improve the facilities that the
school offers.

different facilities of the school.

Facilities- It refers to the place that is used

by the students inside the school campus of
Roosevelt College Rodriguez.
CHAPTER III
Methods of Research
In this research the researcher used the descriptive
method of research because it emphasizes the
perception of students on the school facilities.
According to the book “Principle and Methods of
Research: a simplifies Approach” by Carmelita V.
Cruz, Ph.D. descriptive method is used to asses “what
is”. It is designed to produce information about
prevailing situations, or what is or has been
happening, or nature of things.
The studies categorized as status studies include
these that intend to present facts concerning the nature
and status of groups of persons, objects, and set of
conditions, class events, system of thought or any
phenomena which a researcher wants to focus on.
Respondents
This research is all about “THE PERCEPTION
OF THE FIRST YEAR AND THE FOURTH YEAR
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ON THE SCHOOL
FACILITIES OF ROOSEVELT COLLEGE
RODRIGUEZ S.Y. 2006-2007”.
The researchers made use of the Slovin’s
Formula to get the sample size out of the population
size. The total population of the First year high school
students is two Hundred Fifty one we got One
Hundred Fifty Four for sample size and Twenty six
students in four sections and Twenty Five in other
two sections in the first year level.
The total population of the Fourth
Year High School students is Two
Hundred ninety one we got One Hundred
Thirty seven for sample size and twenty
seven students in three section and twenty
eight in the other two sections in the
Fourth year level.
The researcher used the lottery method
to get the respondents. The member of
the sample is drawn from the population
based on the judgment of the researchers.
Research Instruments
In this study the research gathered the important
data from the registrar office with the permission of
the directress to get the list of names of the First year
and Fourth year high school students on the school
facilities of Roosevelt College Rodriguez SY: 2006-
2007, and to be able to get these they used
Questionnaires to their respondents. These provide
basis for empirical observation.
The table below shows the scale of distribution in
which it was used in the research questionnaire.
Assigned scales of the distribution tables
Assigned Scale Description
5 Excellent
4 Very Satisfactory
3 Satisfactory
2 Fair
1 Poor

It shows the assigned scale of the distribution tables in

which 5 stands for Excellent, 4 stands for Very Satisfactory,
3 stands for Satisfactory, 2 stands for Fair,1 stands for Poor.
The researchers used the following scales so that they can be
able to attain the most suitable and reliable answer and to
come up with a precise out come and results.
Data Gathering Procedure
In searching this important data, (1.) the
researcher gathered some data from the
registrar office by writing a letter of request to
the directress of Roosevelt College Rodriguez,
(2.) the letter of request was sent to the
registrar office with the directress signature to
get the list of names of the First Year and
Fourth Year High School Students, (3.) the
gathered data were used, tabulated and treated
statistically.
Locale of the Study
The Roosevelt Memorial High School, Montalban, Rizal
was established in 1962 though the initiative of the school’s
Board of Trustees and civic Leaders of this beautiful and
historic town. The establishment of this school was prompted
by the fast economic growth and the increase in population of
this municipality.
Today, the high school department is on the new site at
Manggahan, Rodriguez, Rizal, a barangay away from its
former sire at Balite. The new site opened last June 5, 2000
but its blessing and inauguration was held last June 20,2000.
This beautiful imposing building was the brain child of
board of Trustees at the Roosevelt College System headed by
Mr. Romeo P. Dela Paz and engineered by Engr. Leodegario
R. Cruz, the secretary of Board of Trustees.
Statistical Tools and Treatment of Data
The common statistical tools that are commonly used in this research
are used to draw conclusions. Ordinarily, the data that are used in
this research are never too few. For practical purposes, the
formulas will be applicable.
Basically, mean difference is computed by adding all the scores
and dividing it by the number of scores.
Ď = ΣD
n

Just like the mean the standard deviation is the most unbiased
estimate of the population characteristic. It is a measure of how
close to the mean is the greatest concentration
of scores or observation. The SD = Σ(D- Ď) ²
equivalent formula is more practical to use. n-1
To be able to get the frequency distribution of the
respondents in terms of year level the formula to be
used must be %=f/n*100.
The Computed t is formulated by this t= Ď
equation it is used to know whether to. SD/ n
reject or to accept the hypothesis.
To get the weighted mean the formula wm= Σd
to be used must be n
Where:
f = frequency
n = Total Population
D = Difference between each pair of scores
Ď = mean difference
X = mean

Summary, Conclusion, and Recommendation
After diverse efforts and hard works, the
researchers had already completed the
application of data and came up with an
outcome that is enclosed in this chapter. This
part contained the summary, conclusion and
recommendation from the said topic.
Summary
This study was designed to determine the perception of the first year
and fourth year high school students on the school facilities of Roosevelt
College Rodriguez SY: 2006-2007. This research study was undertaken to
find answers to the following questions:
1.What is the profile of the respondents in term of Year level?
2.What is the perception of the First Year High School Students on
the school facilities?
3.What is the perception of the Fourth Year High School Students on
the school facilities?
4.Is there any significant difference between the perception of the
first Year and the Fourth Year High School Students in the
school facilities of Roosevelt College Rodriguez SY: 2006-
2007?
This study involved One Hundred Fifty Four First Year High School
Students and One Hundred Thirty Seven Fourth Year High School
Students. The researchers made use of the
Slovin’s Formula to get the sample size out of the
population size. The total population of the First year
high school students was two Hundred Fifty one we
got One Hundred Fifty Four for sample size and
Twenty six students in four sections and Twenty Five
in other two sections in the first year level. The total
population of the Fourth Year High School students is
Two Hundred ninety one we got One Hundred Thirty
seven for sample size and twenty seven students in
three section and twenty eight in the other two
sections in the Fourth year level.
The researcher used the lottery method to get the
respondents. The member of the sample is drawn
from the population based on the judgment of the
researchers.
The table below shows the scale of distribution in
which it was used in the research questionnaire.
 Assigned scales of the distribution tables
Assigned Scale Description

5 Excellent
4 Very Satisfactory
3 Satisfactory
2 Fair
1 Poor

It showed the assigned scale of the distribution tables

in which 5 stands for Excellent, 4 stands for Very
Satisfactory, 3 stands for Satisfactory, 2 stands for
Fair,1 stands for Poor. The researchers used the
following scales so that they can be able to attain the
most suitable and reliable answer and to come up
with a precise out come and results.
As the researcher presented the table and the
computed data gathered, this study came up
with some findings, and all hereby stated:

1. The Records office has the highest Perception

in the Fourth Year Level, on the other hand the
Clinic and the Property Office has the highest
Perception in the First Year Level.
2. The Audio Visual Room has the lowest
Mean Perception in the First Year Level, and
the Comfort Rooms has the lowest Mean
Perception in the Fourth Year Level.
3. The Perception of the First Year and Fourth
Year High School Students on the School
Facilities are closely related because of the
table shown the values of Mean Perception are
close and almost the same.
Conclusion
Based on the findings of this study, the
researchers conclusion were drawn:

1.The perception of the First Year High School

Students on the school facilities is Very
Satisfactory.
2. The perception of the Fourth Year High
School Students on the school facilities is
Very Satisfactory.
3.There is a Significant Difference between the
Perception of the First Year and the Fourth
Year High School Students on the School
Facilities of Roosevelt College Rodriguez SY:
2006-2007.
Recommendation
As the researchers found out that there is a
significant difference between the perceptions
of the First Year and the Fourth Year High
School Students on the School Facilities, the
following are some recommendations prepared
by the researchers.
1.For the Students, they should know the
importance of having improved facilities,
because it would help them in their studies, it
will make their studies easier. They should
also take care of it like they own it.
2.For the Teachers, they should guide the
students and explain what should they must
do to improve and how to take care of the
facilities.
3.For the Administrators, they should also
guide the students for safeguarding the
facilities. They should also improve the
facilities more and more to be able for the
students to make their studies easier.
4.to the future researchers, this research
would just be an inspiration for them this
study would help them to do further
investigation about this study.
