Problem Statement

KDM_ME304

WHAT? A user friendly, cost effective retraceable mechanism to dry clothes in high rise buildings effective during the rainy season.

Examples
4/28/2012 KDM_ME304 4

WHY? Existing hangers didnt take over the market and people are still using old traditional way to dry clothes.

4/28/2012

KDM_ME304

WHY?

Some common issues with present hangers:

Non User Friendly High Costing Non effective during rains Structured (Consumes Space) Ergonomics Usage Complicated Mechanism

4/28/2012

KDM_ME304

HOW?????
A design that is better, efficient, user friendly to overcome the disadvantages of other existing hangers.

Specification of material used

Stainless Steel AISI 4130 Density of material = 7.85g/cc Length of rods (as shown in the figure) Diameter of the rod = 10mm Thus multiplying by volume Two outer long rods = 0.5605m3 each, total mass nearly= 4.4kg Small outer rod = 0.2038m3 ,mass nearly = 1.6kg Total mass = 6Kg Strength of material = 435 MPa

Analysis
Stability of the system: Total number of clothes that can be hanged at a time = 12 Assumption:Weight of a wet shirt = 0.5kg Weight of a wet jeans = 1kg Then total weight on the frame (6 Jeans, 4 Shirts) = 10kg Weight of the sliding frame = 3kg In any case weight wont be greater than 15kg

13

Analysis
Now considering all the weight to be concentrated at the centre of mass Let the total force exerted on the main frame at centre of mass of the system be F moment about the joint will be Fx60 Ncm Moment on a single beam = Fx60/2 Ncm Now for this system we are taking our material to be AISI 4130 steel. Now, Strength of this material = 435MP we know for a cantilever beam

Analysis
Now I =bh3/12 ={(30x10-3)3x30x10-3}/12 Here, C = 15mm There for after putting all the values we get, F = 580 N (approx.) Thus, Mass = F/acceleration = 580/10 = 58Kg which is much more than required !!!

Analysis

Maximum Deflection is proportional to PL EI EI is very much greater than PL3

where P is the weight on the beam max = 5.28 x 10-3 m (approx)

Deflection is almost negligible compared to the length of the rod Maximum Moment occurs at Midspan = 175Ncm

Maximum Stress

yield > max

= 175x10-2x5x10-3 / 9.8x10-10 = 8.9 MPa

Thereby, the material is well within the prescribed limit and hence, wont yield. 4/28/2012 KDM_ME304

BeneFits
-Economical and power efficient as there is no use of motor or any electrical appliance. -All pipes can be moved together to hang clothes. -Uses No Floor Space at all -Easy & Convenient to Use pull out when drying and push towards wall when not in use -Number of pipes and size of pipes can be customized as per customer need -Durable due to steel bands at both ends that are carefully manufactured to provide strength and moving facility -Save space in homes with limited drying space -Thick Pipes Never Crease Clothes -Perfect For Installing in Balconies and Windows -Due to the presence of sliders it can move smoothly
