New Fishing methods

As far as new methods of fishery are concerned, we

are examining the possibility of developing in the
district of Heraklion, the production of butarga or
“avgotaraho”in Greek.

For the time being we are in discussion with the

authorities that have under their responsibility the
existent traditional market and the fishermen of
Heraklion city who operate this fish market. The
fishermen themselves have made suggestions for the
better operation of the market and we are trying to come
to a mutual decision regarding the interventions.

The fish market is located
in one of the most tourist
places of Heraklion city.
It is almost in the gate of
the Venetian Fort of
Koules and next to the old
marina of the city, which
especially during the
summer season attracts a
huge number of tourists.

MeSFiDE project is being

supported by another
project, called
THON.DOC (Interreg III
B Medocc) which refers
to fishing tourism. By
developing fishing
tourism, fishermen have
the opportunity to
maximize their income.

Fisherman’s Feast
At the moment we are preparing the
Fisherman’s Feast which is going to be
realized on 14th July. Is going to take place in
one of the most tourist attractive places in
the area of Heraklion Port. We are in
cooperation with the fishermen and with local
