Partnering institutions, in turn, are able to develop broader or new programs that help more people.

Houlton embraces diversity and inclusion as an institutional priority, an epistemological ethos, and as a part of its commitment to promote and accelerate social good. This commitment is reflected in its policies, ethics, educational content and practices.

{But, where does Houlton come from?}

> Houltons Founding Houlton Institute was founded in Princeton, New Jersey and was fully realized in Silicon Valley. Its founders wanted to create a new model in online education one that was innovative, mission-minded, and which proved that an online medium could indeed deliver a high quality education. Thus, Houltons represents the merging of a history of American innovation in education with new technologies, methods and solutions to meet the needs of a changing global society.

> The Name In 1848, some committed citizens of Houlton, Maine tried to create a school based on a provocative idea: a progressive and rigorous school which also emphasized a conscience. The idea emerged at a critical moment in American History. Though several iterations emerged, the school never survived. We believe that they were on to something
