WHAT IS UID ?
The Unique Identification Authority Of India is

an agency of the government of India responsible for implementing the envisioned unique identification card (UID CARDS) project in the country. It was established in February 2009. The Authority aims at providing a unique number to all Indians.

Chief of UID authority Mr. NANDAN NILEKANI

AADHAAR(UNIQUE ID PROJECT)
Indias

ambitious unique id project Aadhaar which aims to give every Indian citizen a unique number mapped to biometrics, was launched in the Nadurbar district of Maharashtra. Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique number which the Unique Identification Authority of India will issue for all residents. UIDAI will enable a universal identity infrastructure that any Id based application like ration card , passport etc can use.

Benefits Of UID
UID is foremost important for a country like India

which has the second largest population in the world and has also been the target of some of the most brutal terrorist attacks in recent pasts. Eligibility or ownership verification would be facilitated.

UID cards are available for all classes of people.

NATIONAL POLICIES
A number of countries & continents have identity cards. These include Austria , Finland , Iceland , Hungary , Sweden , Switzerland & United Kingdom. A number of countries & continents do not have national identity cards. These include Australia, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, Japan , New Zealand, united states.

Limitation of UID
The cost of introducing and

administering an identity card system can be very high. Commercial organizations such as bank typically do not try to authenticate the identity of a person but rather the validity of a transaction due to the acknowledged difficulty in reliably identifying an individual in a fraud proof and convenient manner.

Devise- Develop and test the UID. Build- Populate the system through data migration. Enhance- Integrate other systems.

Hi-tech multi-purpose national identity cards,

carrying 16 personal details and a UID numbers, were launched in DELHI in 2007. The identity cards are issued to citizens above 18 years of age. The card has a SCOSTA micro-processor chip with a memory of 16 KB which is secured against tampering.
