What do we study? In AS English Literature you will study 2 units: Unit 1 Aspects of Narrative 60% AS grade Unit 2 Dramatic Genres 40% AS grade

Unit 1 Aspects of Narrative


You will study two novels, one from pre 1900, focusing on narrative technique. You will also study a collection of work by two poets, 1800 1945. This is an open book examination which is worth 60% of your final AS grade.

Unit 2 Dramatic Genres


In this unit you will be studying at least two plays within the genre of Comedy, including one which will be Shakespeare. This is a coursework unit and will be worth 40% of your AS grade.

Assessment Objectives
AO1 - Articulate creative, informed and relevant responses to literary texts, using appropriate terminology and concepts, and coherent, accurate written expression AO2 - Demonstrate detailed critical understanding in analysing the ways in which structure, form and language shape meanings in literary texts AO3 - Explore connections and comparisons between different literary texts, informed by interpretations of other readers AO4 - Demonstrate understanding of the significance and influence of the contexts in which literary texts are written and received.

Group sizes and activities


The Sixth Form lessons at DGGS are vibrant and energetic. We have large class sizes due to the popularity of the subject so expect a challenging environment for your ideas. English is not a subject in which to be a passive participant!
