Collection of Data :

 It means gathering of information it relevant to the

subject

 It a very critical step in statistical analysis

CCP303.3 5
Classification of Data :

1. Primary Data
2. Secondary Data

CCP303.3 6
Primary Data :

It means data collected during investigation by:

 by actual observation
 measurement and count and
 direct recording

CCP303.3 7
Advantages of Primary Data:

 Very reliable
 Most suitable for the study
 Scope for mis-interpretation minimum
 Greater degree of participation from
respondents

CCP303.3 8
Limitations of Primary Data:
 Scope for manipulation
 Very expensive process
 Involves lot of time and effort
 Needs use of various statistical techniques

CCP303.3 9
SOURCES OF PRIMARY DATA

CCP303.3 10
Methods of collecting Primary Data:
 Direct Personal Investigation
 Indirect Oral Investigation
 Information from Local agents
 Mailed Questionnaires and Schedules
 Schedules to be filled by Enumerators

CCP303.3 11
Primary data – Methods of collection:
1) Direct Personal Investigation:

In this method, investigator approaches each

informant and gathers first hand information by

 interview (or)
 observation.

CCP303.3 12

training and instructions to fill the questionnaires
supplied to them
