"Continually amazed" said a national sales
manager of a company selling office
equipment, "at the failure of many
outstanding salesman to become effective
leaders when appointed to branch
management posts". A good salesman has

attributes of a leader. Why can't he use
those same attributes to lead his branch
when we put him in charge?". What do you
think of this observation?

Recently, an employee of an industrial firm

received a severe electric shock while
performing a job in the field. A paramedic team
that was rushed to the scene administered
artificial respiration, but en route to the hospital
emergency center, the patient lost his vital
signs. Upon arrival at the hospital, he was
pronounced dead and his body was "released
to the morgue", which was the common
hospital terminology used.
EX – 7 contd.
In all the excitement of the accident, no one
had called the employee's spouse, who heard
about the accident shortly after it happened.
When she called the company, the company
spokesperson indicated that he knew nothing
of the accident. Quickly investigating, he
placed a call to the hospital and learned the
employee's status. He then called the
employee's wife and indicated to her that her
husband was apparently in good shape, as a
hospital spokesperson said that he had
apparently been "released". How did this
miscommunication occur? Upon whom would
you place blame? Why?

Mark Johnson, President and Chief Executive
of ABC National Bank, was worried about his
two Chief Executive Officers, Jim Smith and
Jackie Jones, who were barely speaking to
each other. The two officers' antagonistic
behaviour towards one another was
beginning to affect morale and the bank's
effectiveness. Personnel throughout the bank
were choosing sides, and even some bank
customers were aware of the conflict.
EX – 8 contd.

and Jackie into his office and requested that
they settle their differences and work more
effectively together. Unfortunately, Mark's
request had not been heeded, and more
