What can BROWN do for you

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

United parcel services were established in 1907 as American Messenger Company in the United States, by James E. Casey (19 year old), when there was a great need of messenger in America. By 2000, it has become the Worlds largest package delivery company and leading global providers of specialized transportation and logistics services. Innovations in technology played an important role in its rapid growth. In India, UPS is available as...UPS JetAir Express Pvt. Ltd. Its present CEO is D.SCOTT DAVIS.

CORPORATE HISTORY
There was no messenger system in America during 1907, so there was need of a delivery system, as a result of which UPS was founded in 1907 Though UPS had continued to expand its retail store services throughout the 1930s and 1940s, by the early 1950s it was clear that contract service to retail stores was limited. Therefore, UPS managers began looking for new opportunities while the core business remained focused on retail delivery.

The demand for air parcel delivery increased in the 1980s. To ensure dependability, UPS began to assemble its own jet cargo fleet. With growing demand for faster service, UPS entered the overnight air delivery business, and by 1985, UPS Next Day Air service was available in all 48 states and Puerto Rico UPS Airlines was the fastest-growing airline in FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) history, formed in little more than one year with all the necessary technology and support systems. Today, UPS Airlines is one of the 10 largest airlines in the United States

UPS Airlines features some of the most advanced information systems in the world, like the Computerized Operations Monitoring, Planning and Scheduling System (COMPASS), which provides information for flight planning, scheduling, and load handling. The system, which can be used to plan optimum flight schedules up to six years in advance, is unique in the industry. IN 1993, ups was delivering 11.5 million packages and documents a day. Thus, UPS had to develop new technology to maintain efficiency, keep prices competitive, and provide new customer services.

Then they developed Delivery Information Acquisition Device (DIAD), carried by every UPS driver, was developed to immediately record and upload delivery information to the UPS network. The DIAD information even includes digital pictures of a recipient's signature, thus giving customers real-time information about their shipments.

In 2005 UPS launched the first non-stop delivery service between the U.S. and Guangzhou, China. That same year, UPS acquired the interest held by its joint venture business partner in China, giving it access to 23 cities that cover more than 80% of the country's international trade. Now it is delivering through trains, airways, trucks, shipping and bicycles also.. and enjoying the tag of worlds largest parcel delivery company.

PROBLEM :- Newcomers and already existing company in the market

SOLUTION:- No new entrant can stand in the market until there are flaws in there working, serving , marketing strategies. So they need to have regular inspection of there working in every field. They need to change there brokerage charges , as of now which is 30% of the cost of purchase. SOURCE:-http://www.wikinvest.com/stock/United_Parcel_Service_(UPS)

PROBLEM:-Theft by workers SOLUTION:-For big parcels company can have surveillance cameras in the vehicles, but same cannot be use for small size things, so for that company need to check there management department and workers relati0n, and should start moral classes for workers and need to create such a relation in which they (company workers)can understand one another.
