INTRODUCTION
PERT is a project management tool used to
schedule, organize, and coordinate tasks within a project. PERT stand for Programmed Evaluation Review Technique . It is basically a method to analyze the tasks involved in completing a given project, especially the time needed to complete each task, and to identify the minimum time needed to complete the total project .
OBJECTIVES
To simplify the scheduling and planning of large
a project .
To reduce both the time and cost required to
complete a project.
activities.
Construct a network diagram.
progresses.
complete a project.
The milestones are the events marking
activity identification step since the activity sequence is evident for some tasks.
diagrams.(Activity on arrow (AOA) & activity on node (AON)). Network diagram can be drawn showing the sequence of the serial and parallel activities.
adding the times for the activities in each sequence and determining the longest path in the project.
ADVANTAGE
Clear information about the project.
A large amount of data can be organized. Its help to identify the critical path of
action. PERT gives a clear idea about the time taken in each and every stage of the project. Activity start and end date.
LIMITATION
They are applicable to only a narrow variety
of projects and industries. There is inherent danger of too much emphasis being placed on the critical path. The graphical nature of a network delays comprehension of the activity list's interrelationships. They can be used only to monitor schedules.
