Patient Accommodation
Patient accommodation should:
Provide somewhere for patients after surgery Ideally provide a separate area for cats and dogs (this can be forfeited if space is an issue as long as care is taken not to put them in sight of each other) Have an exercise area Allow each animal access to food, water, litter trays and warm bedding Have a water source and sink Have an area for preparing food and medication Have an area for cleaning bedding, food bowls etc Have an area for storing cleaning utensils, bedding, food etc... Have sufficient ventilation to allow 4 air changes per hour (UFAW regulations) Be as sound proof as possible

Typical UK Patient Accommodation

Large Animal Accommodation

Large patient accommodation should provide everything that small patient accommodation provides but:
Each stable should be large enough to accommodate a cow (UFAW recommends that each stable is 12ft x 12ft)
These stables can then be made smaller or divided using hurdles to accommodate smaller species

Doors and walls should be high, to prevent escape (especially of wildlife such as flighty Duiker) Bedding will consist of a substrate such as straw, not vetbeds

Typical UK Large Animal Accommodation

Quarantine Area
Quarantine area should be similar to patient accommodation but on a smaller scale. Provisions should be made so that nothing needs to leave or enter the area keeping it isolated and secure The area needs its own equipment Protective clothing [boiler suits etc...] should be worn when working in quarantine and taken off before leaving. Masks must be worn when dealing with zoonotic disease
