Test Case 4: Mntn Energia Oy

Until 1992, owned by Mets Tissue Corporation which runs a paper mill in Mntt Since then own company Customers: Mets (steam and power), Mntn District Heating Company (heat)

Customers Objectives
Produce 420 GWh /a heat and 60 GWh/a power Reduce unplanned stops of plant operation Minimise emissions to the environment Reduce fuel expenses by ~ 2% ( which means > 100 000 /a savings!!)

Web Site and Test Cases / Projects

How the Sim-Serv web site helps potential customers find solutions or solution suppliers How projects contribute to enriching the web site

The Supplier: Endat Oy

More than 15 years experience in power plant simulation Own tool Prosim, sold many licences especially in Scandinavia Through many co-operations, deep knowledge of State of the Art and future needs

Endats Standard Tool ProSim

Modular simulation system Applicable for different types of power plants Mainly used for the design of new plants and evaluation of process changes (off-line) not really suited for the customers needs

Test Case Result:

WebProsim
Key features: Web based power plant simulation system. Sophisticated, easy to use user interface. Usable with standard web browser within companys intranet.

Benefits of Using WebProsim

Identify possible bottlenecks before they need on-the-job maintenance. Save maintenance costs with condition monitoring. Optimise fuel consumption and emissions.

Main screen of a WebProsim installation. Process contains several boilers, steam turbines and other equipment.

Business Models
Many were discussed, but Testing was not possible during funded project

Users Feedback
Neutral evaluation of various offers appreciated Often no wide circulation of their specs! Fear to publish results greater than expected Financial support is not the reason High degree of satisfaction with SimServs and suppliers services

Suppliers Feedback
Test Case formalities heavy burden Low capabilities to produce good Success Stories Some prefer being subcontracted Satisfied with Sim-Servs services Ready to pay membership fees as well as fees for services

What We Learnt
Procedures in principle OK More dissemination and consultation needed than expected Both, users and suppliers, are essentially satisfied with our services Future Plans later this afternoon
